About this deal

If you want a telescope that is small, lightweight, and very easy to use, consider the Orion SkyScanner 100 or Zhumell Z100, a 4” tabletop reflector. And at this price point, if you want to scan wide fields of view across the sky searching for bright deep-sky-objects and star fields, consider a pair of binoculars instead. A 10x50mm or 7x50mm pair of binoculars have the same overall light gathering. If you’re already a telescope owner, this might be a good portable option for you, for the same reason as the ST80. I find the TravelScope 70 is lightweight enough that it plays much nicer on photo tripods than the ST80 that I own, and despite getting the ST80 specifically as a grab-n-go scope, I found that I would end up taking the TravelScope 70 outside instead, especially if I wanted a peek at something behind the trees, visible from a different part of my yard. It’s a bit like a ShortTube 70, in overall design and in application, and for an astro-tinkerer you may be able to fix some of its shortcomings. The Celestron Travelscope 70 has a 70mm aperture which allows for good light-gathering capabilities. The magnification range is from 20x to 165x, depending on the eyepiece used. The focal length of this travel scope is 400 mm which makes it suitable for viewing large objects like planets. The two real letdowns among the accessories are the finderscope and the prism diagonal. The finderscope is ridiculous. Galileo’s telescope was probably better. These things barely belong in a McDonald’s happy meal toy, let alone a telescope. It is barely sufficient for sighting through it to find targets, but it isn’t usable on its own as a wide-field finderscope. The Celestron Travelscope 70 has many features that make it a great choice for anyone who wants a portable 70mm travel scope. Some of the features of this telescope include a tripod, two eyepieces, a finder scope, a diagonal, and an altazimuth mount. What is the aperture of the Celestron Travelscope 70?

Owners of Celestron’s PowerSeeker 127EQ telescope love the ability to fine-tune the scope’s R.A. and declination. If you need to replace those adjustment cables, you can do that easily yourself with the Celestron Declination & Right Ascension Plastic Slow Motion Cables for PowerSeeker 127EQ Telescope. So, what you’ll be able to see with the Celestron Travelscope 70 is dependent on a variety of factors such as atmospheric conditions, light pollution levels, and your own personal viewing location. Generally, you can expect to observe bright and clear views of the moon’s craters, planets such as Jupiter and Saturn (including their moons), star clusters, and even some nebulae. You can also use it to observe deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula or other galaxies far away from our own. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced astronomer, this travel telescope is sure to impress. The optics in the Celestron Travelscope 70 are of good quality and provide clear images without much distortion. With its compact size and easy portability, this travel scope makes for an excellent choice for beginners or those who want to take their telescope on trips.

Celestron’s CGEM mounts have always proven to be popular, but if you find the motor isn’t working as well as it should, you can swap it out with a Celestron Motor Assembly. This motor and encoder assembly works with either the RA or Declination axis of the mount, making this a convenient, cost-effective solution. Overall, the Celestron Travelscope 70 is perfect for beginners or anyone who loves traveling and exploring the night sky without compromising on quality.

CELESTRON Travelscope 21035-CGL Refractor Telescope - Currys

The Celestron CPC 1100 StarBright XLT 2800mm Telescope is absolutely the best Celestron telescope in the fleet. It has a massive, 11-inch aperture, which is more than enough to make even the dimmest celestial objects visible, even in areas full of serious light pollution. It also includes a 9×50 finderscope, which is as powerful on its own as some full telescopes. There’s a heavy-duty tripod, which greatly reduces vibrations and makes it easy to align this telescope with objects in the nighttime sky. With the 45-degree prism, the Moon was aesthetically pretty at low powers but a bit of a rainbow mess at 40x and higher. With the mirror diagonal, the moon became much sharper and you could really begin to appreciate its features. I found the 40mm sub-aperture-mask dustcap it comes with wasn’t really needed; it’s plenty sharp enough even at 67x, and there’s no chromatic aberration noticeable until you overpower the scope to about 167x. (Maximum useful power would be around 100-130x) It held its own against a cheap 70mm long-focus achromat and the ShortTube 80.

It comes with all the gear necessary to start observing the night sky or to see groupings from hundreds of yards away. Most importantly, it’s not a wallet-buster. Not compatible with #93648 Off-Axis Guider, not compatible with #93519 2" Mirror Diagonal (discontinued)After my first half hour using the telescope, I was exhausted trying to work around its awful mount. However, in that time, I was able to observe the Double Cluster in Perseus, the Orion Nebula, and the Andromeda Galaxy, and I was pleased enough by them to not immediately write off the telescope as a failure. The aperture allows high-resolution viewing, without adding a lot of extra weight. It’s the best way to learn about the night sky and plan your next observing session. Its quality is unmatched in its class and against competitors.

As I write this, there are no planets worth looking at (Mars is a dot in even the largest telescopes), so the only high-resolution tests I could put the telescope through were of double stars and the Moon. Celestron’s Travelscope 70 is yet another example of Celestron using their brand name, reputation, and clever marketing to unload a glorified toy telescope onto buyers. The TravelScope, however, is a unique twist on those, as it is sold as both an astronomical telescope and a terrestrial/spotting scope. It is more or less a failure at both. While you may think that a company like that would have nothing for beginners, Celestron makes a wide range of telescopes for different budgets and ability levels. That means there’s probably a great option for anyone.
