About this deal

Transcutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation (tVNS) has been recommended by some for some time for refractory epilepsy and more recently tried for refractory depression. A generator is surgically implanted with an output lead surrounding the vagus nerve. The generator can be transcutaneously reprogrammed. A simpler approach, recognising that the vagus innervates part of the external auditory canal could potentially allow tVNS to be used less invasively. While this treatment may have some potential there is currently no compelling evidence of efficacy. That's what I said upon finding this on the shelf in my local library. I love that. When something you would have anticipated the arrival of, had you known it was about to exist, is just There one day. Hurrah! Dr Christmas then moved on to describe several newer brain stimulation therapies for depression, concluding that none is close to coming into routine clinical usage at present. The sheer quality of English sparkling wine has long since seen off the sceptics, but the pricing can still sometimes be a little ambitious. Not here: this wonderfully bright, lemony but yeasty-savoury-salty cuvée is easily as good as many champagnes that are double the price. During a discussion with campmates, conversation turned to his former professional rival David Haye.

Dr Christmas summed up by saying that for depression there is little new; ketamine is interesting but currently too short-lived to be useful. Possibly the use of psychedelic agents will be a future area for research. Most developmental work is in neuro-stimulation but there are few really useful outcomes of this to date. For OCD, the best advice is to use existing drugs better and, where tolerated, in higher doses. DBS may be better for OCD than depression but this is not yet substantiated. You know it's time to think about putting up the decorations when you hear Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas. So it was for me as I took in the sights, sounds and aromas of Llandudno Christmas Extravaganza. Major depression affects 13% of people in their lifetime and almost 4% of the population within any 12 month period. It is twice as prevalent in women, most commonly starts in the 3 rd decade, lasts more than 2 years in up to 20% of sufferers, and has a 35% recurrence rate.

The vineyards of Bergerac don’t quite fall under the geographic rubric of Bordeaux, but their wines, made from the same group of grape varieties, share many similarities, while generally coming in at a significant discount. That’s certainly the case with this clever bit of sourcing by Tesco, with its refreshing, curranty crunch. These guidelines are never absolute and perhaps even more complex in relation to OCD: previous failed trials of 3 selective serotonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) including clomipramine, 2 augmentation trials (including risperidone) and 1 ‘intensive therapy’ trial. The President delivered a vote of thanks and presented Dr Christmas with a copy of ‘ The Heritage of the Med Chi‘.Supermarket cava can be a little bit hit and miss, but when it works it’s easily the best-value, traditional-method sparkling around. Made from the traditional trio of cava grapes – paralleda, xarel·lo and macabeo – this well-made example is very much a hit: lime-tangy, toasty and fresh. It is similarly difficult to be precise about appropriate referral criteria that allow the AIS to be helpful without taking over the secondary care role for referred patients. There have also been ongoing challenges of accurately defining what AIS can provide where staff and time resources are generally diminishing. Intensive inpatient treatment is occasionally thought appropriate, usually in the form of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD. Perhaps 4-6 admissions per year for ERP will each receive daily therapy over 3-4 weeks totalling up to 60 hours of personal treatment. Response is limited and similar to other complex OCD treatments in producing a reduction from around 30 to 20 in the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale. Despite this limited outcome, it is noted that there are no alternative interventions that are regularly more efficacious. For millions listening around the world, A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, live from the candlelit Chapel of King's College, Cambridge, marks the beginning of Christmas. The service is based around nine Bible readings which tell the story of the loving purposes of God. They are interspersed with carols old and new, sung by the world-famous Chapel choir, who also lead the congregation in traditional Christmas hymns.

Episode 2 - The second special will be airing on December 2 and is called 'Wild Blue Yonder'. The episode synopsis reads: "The Tardis takes the Doctor and Donna to the furthest edge of adventure. To escape, they must face the most desperate fight of their lives, with the fate of the universe at stake."

Episode 3 - The final special - 'The Giggle' - will air on BBC One on December 9. The episode synopsis reads: "The giggle of a mysterious puppet is driving the human race insane. When the Doctor discovers the return of the terrifying Toymaker, he faces a fight he can never win." Episode 1 - The first Doctor Who special starts on BBC One at 6.30pm and is an hour long. The episode is called 'The Star Beast' and sees the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble - and answers to her memory being wiped by the Doctor who warned her family that if she ever remembered him, she would die. The episode synopsis reads: "The Doctor is caught in a fight to the death as a spaceship crash-lands in London. But as the battle wreaks havoc, destiny is converging on the Doctor’s old friend, Donna." As the classic wines of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or have become ever more expensive, the vineyards of the Mâcon in the south of the region have become an increasingly welcome friend to fans of classic Burgundian chardonnay. This pristine, pure, luminously incisive style is an effortlessly stylish choice for the Christmas table. The President welcomed the company to the meeting. He introduced Dr David Christmas, Consultant Psychiatrist in the Advanced Interventions Service and based in Dundee, inviting him to give his talk on ‘ Modern Management of Treatment-Refractory Depression and OCD’. But of course David is only making a brief return and a new Doctor will officially be taking over the Tardis, played by Ncuti Gatwa. But when exactly will viewers first get to meet their new Doctor?

To get to return to something that meant so much 15 years ago, and was such a huge part of my life, was something I never really imagined was likely," David said. "To be the Doctor again, what a treat!" A service of carols, hymns and readings, live from the candlelit Chapel of King's College, Cambridge. Dr Christmas then moved on to say more about the work of the AIS in Ninewells Hospital which was established with central Scottish Government funding in 2006. Much strategic emphasis has been put on differentiating between the intended quaternary level status of this unit, with the requirement to fill tertiary level need, there being no tertiary level psychiatry services anywhere in Scotland. This means that the majority of the work involves assessing referrals direct from secondary care. It was noted that referral requires no extra expenditure from referring health board to this specialist unit with its top-sliced central funding.

Once in Royal David's City

The modern renaissance of winemaking on the slopes of the active volcano Mt Etna has produced some of the most exciting and distinctive red wines anywhere. Fragrant, tomato-tangy, subtly smoky, this is a brilliant introduction to the style, as well being a perfect turkey accompaniment.
