A Little Broken \"Aaaahhhhkkkk... pfffttttt... aaaaaahhhhhhk kkkkk . . . pppppppptttttt... \" No, reader, you haven't bought the Swahili edition of this book by mistake. That was the sound Ben was waiting for. Granny snoring. She was asleep. \"Aaaaaahhhhkkkkkkk... pppppfffffffttttttt... aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhkkkkkkk... \" Ben crept out of his room and made his way over to the telephone in the hall. It was one of those old style telephones that purred like a cat 47 Some characters, like Granny in ‘Gangsta Granny’ for example, can have characteristics that are unexpected. This makes the story even more exciting! Here is an example of a character description of Mr Parker from the story ‘Gangsta Granny’: We did film in the Tower of London, which was really exciting. To be there at night filming just before they did the key ceremony, it was very exciting! I’m not too old that I don’t get excited about these things. Patricia Hidalgo, Director BBC Children’s and Education, says: “I can’t imagine a more perfect film for families to sit down and watch together. This adventurous tale will appeal to all generations young and old.”

It’s called ballroom dancing,” corrected Dad. “And you don’t love it. You said, and I quote, ‘I would rather eat my own bogeys than watch that rubbish’.” Write about one of the adventures that granny might have had when she was the most wanted jewel thief in the world.Mystery and Wonder Ben wasn't at all sure that Raj was right about Granny. That night it was the same old story. Granny served up cabbage soup, followed by cabbage pie and for dessert it was cabbage mousse. She even found some cabbage-flavoured after-dinner chocolates'=· somewhere. After dinner, Granny and Ben sat down together on the musty sofa as they alway s did. \"Scrabble time!\" exclaimed Granny. ,:-cabbage-flavoured chocolates are not as nice as they sound, and they don't sound that nice. 39

Gangsta Granny us' not 'one of them'. He was so full of life and laughter, Raj seemed a world away from parents and teachers and all the grown-ups who felt they could tell you off because they were bigger than you. \"Just because your granny 1s old, young Ben,\" said Raj, \"doesn't mean that she is boring. I am getting on a bit myself. And whenever I have met your granny I have found her to be a very interesting lady.\" \"But-\" \"Don't be too hard on her, Ben,\" pleaded Raj. \"We will all be old one day. Even you. And I'm sure your granny will have a secret or two. Old people always do...\" • I don’t want to give too much of the story away, but it is the progressive relationship of the grandma and the little boy, who is forced to stay with her every Friday and finds it desperately boring. She decides to not be desperately boring, and tells him stories about her past, and she suddenly becomes quite a glamorous figure in his eyes. It’s their connection together. There are other people in it of course, people like Miranda Hart and David Walliams – but we’re not so interested in those, we’re interested in the main characters! I have to say the little boy, Reece Buttery, is the most splendid young actor I have ever worked with. He’s just terrific. Gang-loads of energy – it’s hard to keep him quiet really! But he’s just excellent, a real pleasure to work with… and I have to say [whispers] most children are not a pleasure to work with! Gangsta Granny started off as a book which, incidentally, is written by myself. It’s the story of a little boy called Ben, who thinks his granny is very, very boring and hates spending time with her… until she tells him that she was an international jewel thief, and they go on an adventure together to steal the crown jewels. There is a mystery however as to whether she really was an international jewel thief or not. It’s about old people, and the way young people think about old people, because I think young people think old people were always old and nothing exciting ever happened to them – and certainly I used to think that when I was 8, 9, or 10 with my grandma. Then I’d get them on a subject like the Second World War and talking about living in London through the Blitz, and suddenly they’d come alive, and that’s literally what I was thinking about when I wrote the original story. Granny’s door makes a ‘Clunk’ sound as it is closed. Can you think of other words that describe a sound (e.g. oink, bang, swish)?I think it’s a very clever script. Gangsta Granny is really in the boy’s [Ben's] head, it’s in his imagination. She fires his imagination, but he wants an interesting granny, and grannies don’t always show their hands. There are hidden depths. I’ve always wished I had hidden depths – I’ve been looking for them for years! Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! is the latest David Walliams book to be commissioned by the BBC following Mr Stink, Gangsta Granny, The Boy In The Dress, Billionaire Boy, Grandpa’s Great Escape and The Midnight Gang. Gangsta Granny It wouldn't. And now it was getting cold. Cold bits of cabbage, floating around in some cold cabbagy water. \"Erm, it's delicious, thank you,\" replied Ben. \"G00d\" • He goes home and now can't wait to see his grandma again to find out about these jewels. But when his dad rings Granny up, she says she's too busy that evening to have Ben sleep over. Gangsta Granny \"Because prancing around like that is stupid,\" said Ben. Mum whimpered a little, and reached for a tissue. \"You're upsetting your mother. Now just be quiet please, Ben, there's a good boy,\" replied Dad firmly, as he turned up the volume on the 14

Cabbagy Water \"Are Mummy and Daddy not coming in?\" she asked, a little crestfallen. This was one of the things Ben couldn't stand about her: she was always talking to him like he was a baby. Broom-broom-brroooooooooommm. 1,'ogether Granny and Ben watched the little brown car race off, leaping over the speed bumps. Mum and Dad didn't like spending time with her any more than Ben did. It was just a convenient place to dump him on a Friday night. \"No, erm... Sorry, Granny... \" spluttered Ben. \"Oh, well, come in then,\" she muttered. \"Now, I've set up the Scrabble board and for your tea, I've got your favourite... cabbage soup!\" Ben's face dropped even further. Noooooooo 000000000! he thought.

How might granny be feeling when she hears Ben tell his parents that he doesn’t want to stay with her? Think of different words to describe her emotions. Draw a picture of how granny’s face might look at that time. Don’t talk about your granny like that,” said Dad weakly, his fat stomach pushed up against the steering wheel of the family’s little brown car. In Chapter 24, there is a list of famous prisoners who were kept at the Tower of London. Can you find out about them and their crimes? In Chapter 5 there is a timetable for ‘granny’s hectic life’. Could you create a new, more exciting timetable with lots of different activities at various times each day? Could you make up some questions for others to answer about your timetable (e.g. How long does a particular activity last?)? Ben and Granny play Scrabble together. Ask a friend to give you a random selection of letters and see how many words you can make using them.

Gangsta Granny \"In fairness to the boy she does stink of cabbage,\" agreed Mum, as she applied some last minute lip-liner. \"You're not helping, wife,\" muttered Dad. \"At worst my mother has a very slight odour of boiled vegetables.\" \"Can't I come with you?\" pleaded Ben. \"I love ball-whatsit dancing,\" he lied. \"It's called ballroom dancing,\" corrected Dad. \"And you don't love it. You said, and I quote, 'I would rather eat my own bogeys than watch that rubbish'.\" Now, Ben's mum and dad loved ballroom dancing. Sometimes Ben thought they loved it more than they loved him. There was a TV show on Saturday evenings that Mum and Dad never missed called Strictly Stars Dancing, where celebrities would be paired with professional ballroom dancers. 12 In fairness to the boy she does stink of cabbage,” agreed Mum, as she applied some last minute lip-liner. Granny loves food made with cabbages. Can you design a menu with lots of cabbage-related foods (e.g. cabbage soup, cabbage cake)?Look at the graph of told-offness in Chapter 27. Could you make your own graph about a similar topic? Before he could ring the bell, Granny opened the door. A huge gust of cabbage blasted in Ben’s face. It was like a great big slap of smell. Updated: 29 September 2022 It is a thrill to revisit these characters in a brand new story. I hope families are going to love this comedy adventure story." — David Walliams This film comes from the mind of comedian turned writer David Walliams. It's one of his many children's books to be turned into a TV movie, which is appropriately rated U for all audiences. This feature is directed by Matt Lipsey, it has a runtime of about an hour, and like Walliams's other features, there is a decent cast assembled to act out the parts. Watch this video in which the author answers questions and reads part of the book. Think of some questions that you would like to ask:
