About this deal

Many people say that the more things change, the more that they stay the same. They also often are the same crowd that says that war never changes. Still, a few others say that in the grimdark future of the 41st Millennium, there is only war. However, those people are playing another game entirely. We recently received a free review copy of the"Extremis" boxed set from Games Workshop's third edition of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, and here's what we think of it! The front cover of the box for "Extremis", a starter set for Games Workshop's newest edition of Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. NOTE: 2 things will make or break army compositions going into new 3.0 1) Points and 2) Engagement Ranges. If points don't go up much and Engagement range stays 3" tables are going to feel very small.

The subsequent clean-up, however, was a real pain as I simply couldn’t reach a lot of the areas I needed to. It worked okay on the arm, but for his hood, I ended up smoothing out gaps that should have remained as holes. Hobgrot Slittaz Now, the Vindictor gets a chance to Save to see if the Wound counts. The Vindictor has a Save characteristic of 3+, but rolled a 2, so suffered one Wound. There aren’t any objective markers – or even things you could use as objective markers – provided in the Warrior starter set. Also, given my aversion to painting scenery, and the fact my copy of Cursed City remains untouched, I discovered I don’t actually have anything I could use as an objective marker, either! With that, the orruks charged. The Hobgrots, with their Stab ‘Em Good trait, only managed scrape a further wound on the Vindictors – but enough to kill one of their number.

No that’s not a mistake, these are the same minis as the Harbinger edition so all the advice about that edition still applies here. The difference is the terrain.

Objective games get more accessible for armies with slower units as it should become easier to travel between objectives. For the same reason it may become harder to hold an objective. Whilst a lot of this will look very familiar to anyone who has read the two article that precede this one, the important thing to note here is the gaming board, made from good hardwearing card. Objectives are mostly still same distance when its 2-4, but 5+ Objective and they get tight, easy to move from 1 to another a lot of the times. The box, like the other Starter Sets, contains two Reference Sheets. These take the core-most concepts and most vital workings of a game of Age of Sigmar and strip them down further still so you can have them at your elbow during a game.

If you’re splitting one of the new boxes with your friends or family, you might want one of the more targeted paint sets. The Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Stormcast Eternals Paint Set includes a paintbrush, two Vindictors on which to test your colour scheme, and half a dozen paints to get them ready for battle. Whether you’re looking to start an army of Sigmar’s foremost warriors, the Stormcast Eternals, or are seeking to expand upon an existing collection with all the new units in the set, Dominion is an absolute no-brainer. The set includes a mighty Lord-Imperatant with accompanying Gryph-hound, a spell-casting Knight-Arcanum, a Knight-Vexillor with Banner of Apotheosis, three each of the elite Praetors and Annihilators, and 10 Vindictors. Not only that, but it includes the huntress supreme, Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear – a legendary hero of the Stormcast Eternals whose knowledge of Ghur, the Realm of Beasts, is second to none. Once again, I hate this brush and you will too. but it’s still a decent price for a bunch of paints that will have your Orruks battle-ready.

It’s worth noting here that, aside from the terrain features, all the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk figures that you’d find in the Extremis box are exactly the same as those you’d find in the Harbinger box. If you’re just after some figures and don’t care about scenery, save yourself some cash and grab the Harbinger box. The Swampcalla Shaman and his pot-stirring compatriot are, perhaps, two of the most iconic and dynamic Figueres to be released in the AoS v. 3.0 range so far. I mean, look at them. Each moving 5″ after the Shaman and succeeding on their high Charge rolls, the Vindictors all closed on the Swampcalla Shaman and Pot-grot. A bloodbath ensued. These are delightful models to build and go together with ease. They only had the odd join-line visible, but these have all been carefully designed to hide in natural armour gaps anyway. I see anything GW does with points as less a points increase and more a points reset. When it comes to 40k, many of the units are just being returned to what they were at the start of 8th. I fully expect many of these points cost to drop as the game is tweeked in the years to come. I think the same will likely for Age of Sigmar. Take Chaos Warriors which are 90? points right now. I really do think the AoS designers want Warriors (and Liberators) to be a 100 pts and only shaved their costs in an attempt to balance them with where the game ended up. The only true way less models are going to be placed on the table is if the players do it themselves. This is a fantastic box, but something is stopping me from giving it a big fat five stars, and I think it is the commitment aspect of this box – and the scenery. The scenery you’ll find in the Extremis Starter Set is what sets it apart from the Harbinger beneath it. There is no printed paper tray in this set, only proper, hard plastic scenery, the like of which has not previously been released. Fast and manoeuvrable, Harbinger Chambers serve as the eyes and ears of a Stormhost, often being the first to confront the enemy. They have up to fifteen retinues of three conclaves, focusing on a large Angelos Conclave with smaller Redeemer and Justicar Conclaves. [1b] Exemplar Chamber

Independent hunters and pathfinders who have prowled the realms since the first appearance of the Stormcast Eternals, they serve as their Stormhost's eyes and ears. They have a large Angelos conclave and a smaller Justicar conclave, as well as their Chamber Command of a Lord-Aquilor, Knights-Azyros, and Knights-Venator. [1d] Sacrosanct Chamber Vindictors: Dauntless warriors of the Redeemer conclaves, the Vindictors are the shieldwall upon which the forces of ruin shatter. These models come supplied with 5x Citadel 40mm Round Bases. You can see evidence of these ancient cities in the scenery itself – the pillars on which the nexus syphon stands have been built to different heights to accommodate the ruins upon which the artefact is perched.
