About this deal

Tom says: "Velocity is a preference ball in terms of feel. There are loads of different colour options when it comes to Velocity, but for me, the USP with Velocity is a higher ball flight. Of course, there’s always a small group of golfers clamoring to play what the pros have in the bag. With “Left Dash,” they’ll now have the opportunity to try the Tour offering and see if it’s right for their game. Whether the average mid-handicapper can actually tell a difference remains to be seen. We should also note that, as a small percentage of the market ball, the Left Dash isn’t produced in the same quantities as other Titleist offerings. With smaller quantities likely come tighter tolerances. True Price Both Pro V1x and Pro V1x Left dash cover is made of Urethane Elastomer materials. So many would think that they both would feel the same to touch. True Price is how we quantify the quality of a golf ball. It's a projection of what you'd have to spend to ensure you get 12 good balls.

But I’ve also become incredibly confused about ball choice — so confused that I can’t remember the last time I bought a golf ball (mostly playing OP’s that I find).. I’ll be 70 in a few months and driver swing speed is probably in the mid-80s. I didn’t start playing until in my 40s so I never went through the “hit as hard as you can and we’ll fix direction later” phase and I’ve never had much stopping power on the greens. Even so, I managed to get handicap index down to its lowest point yet (12.3) earlier this year.

For reference, it’s about 10 points firmer than the Pro V1, 15 to 20 points firmer than AVX and Tour Speed and about five points softer than Pro V1x Left Dash. Titleist Pro V1x – Diameter and Weight Id also be interested to know that, all things being equal, if you drop a certain amount of spin off each shot, i.e 300rpm, 500rpm etc, what effect on ball flight would that have in a robot, lab scenario? Titleist’s core material splits quite a bit, and anecdotally, I believe the material in the new models is more brittle than the previous model. It’s also reasonable to wonder if part of Titleist’s positioning is about not infringing on sales of the mainline Pro V1 lineup.

Overall, this is clearly a great performing all-around golf ball. It performs exceptionally well across all categories. Personally, it felt too hard for me around the greens, but Titleist do produce some other great options in the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, so if, despite its really solid testing scores, it still isn’t quite right, you can still get the same performance out of a different Titleist. In the deep recesses of the golf equipment forums, there have always been rumblings about the different versions of the Titleist Pro V1. Whether they were alternate models designed for certain players or old versions clung to by loyalists, they were a subject of fascination. In the fall of 2019, Titleist brought this topic to the mainstream by releasing the Pro V1x Left Dash. A previously Tour-only ball was now available to the public, but is it a good choice for regular golfers?

While the seven-point compression range in the first box is perhaps a little squirrely by Titleist standards, with only a 7.5-compression point difference across the entire sample, the Pro V1x is better than most. Titleist classifies the Pro V1x as high-launch and high-spin. Keep in mind, this is relative to the rest of Titleist’s premium “Tour” offerings so while greenside spin should be ample, the Pro V1x isn’t likely to be one of the spinniest balls on the market off the driver and irons. Before Left Dash hit the market, the standard “X” was the longest ball in the Titleist lineup and should still more than hold its own off the tee. Titleist Pro V1x – Compression The next part of the test was hitting 50-yard wedge shots. This is a key shot for a golfer as we want to try and generate as much spin as possible with a short swing for maximum control when the ball lands on the green. Core color consistency was generally excellent, though it should be noted that there is variation from the balls we cut last year. This isn’t entirely unexpected as Titleist adjusts formulations seasonally to ensure consistent performance as seasons (temperature and humidity) change. Cover And, sure, in situations like these it’s reasonable to defer to the manufacturer’s assessment but given how Left Dash’s performance characteristics align with what golfers want ( more distance throughout the bag with enough spin for most around the green), I’d suggest the company is somewhat stubbornly missing the plot.

Consistency for compression, weight, and diameter measurements each quality as good. The Pro V1x Left Dash is currently the only ball in our database that achieves a good rating across the board. The Bad The Titleist 2023 Pro V1x golf ball, on the other hand, has 348 dimples, a red number, and it has a 4-layer construction (urethane cover, casing layer, dual core). The Pro V1x will offer slightly more spin in the long game and a higher flight, with a firmer feel than the Pro V1. Pro V1x Left Dash isn’t as popular as Pro V1x, instead having nearly similar specs. Only 5% use the Left Dash model of Pro V1. Price In July 2023, Neil became just the 9th editor in Golf Monthly's 112-year history. Originally working with the best coaches in the UK to produce instruction content, he has also presented many Golf Monthly videos looking at all areas of the game from Tour player interviews to the rules of golf. As we’re coming to expect from Titleist, there’s not much cause for concern when the balls are cut. Across the entire sample, no balls were flagged for significant defects in core centeredness or layer concentricity. Small mantle concentricity issues were observed in a handful of balls. As a result, the peak height of the Pro V1x is slightly lower than the Pro V1x left dash. However, both have an average distance of 212-242 Yards. Compression
