That being said, aside from a coffee table art book, I don't believe this book offers much, which makes the ebook less worthwhile. I believe a collection of essays, either interspersed or added in another section, would help take this over the top. Essentially, for this to really feel like a good ebook, it needed more, in my opinion. A curated collection of vintage fungi and mushroom drawings from the book “ C oloured Figures of English Fungi or Mushrooms” by James Sowerby (1809). Franz and Ferdinand Bauer both made an enormous contribution to the “golden century” of natural history illustration between 1750 and 1850. This book was absolutely gorgeous and the illustrations looked absolutely gorgeous and provided amazing amounts of inspiration.This is probably a poisonous mushroom more commonly known as the stinking parasol. It is a common mushroom that can be found in the disturbed ground on lawns, paths, roadsides parks, and gardens. I just love botany books, the drawings are often so gorgeous and pretty bringing the plant to life in front of your eyes. So this one definitely had to come with me on my Netgalley shelf. I adore Mushroom Botanical Art by Toshimitsu Fukiharu and the stunning illustrations with the intricate detail long to be studied and it can be read over and over. Botanical art seems to be having a real resurgence in popularity recently and it's even better to see books from lesser known authors and artists (rather than Lear and Haekel). The book has several sections. Each is divided by the source of the images, and so by subject matter as well. I don't like eating mushrooms, but this collection of illustrated mushrooms is lovely to look at. It would make a great coffee table book, but don't think it works as well as an ebook. Personally, I think these illustrated mushrooms would make excellent material for collaging. I don't that's the intent here, but still something I'm thinking of doing. With many pictures and information it was a joy to read and worthy of a place on a forever shelf for any fans of mushrooms, nature, botany and art. I long to own a physical copy because the true beauty of this book will be revealed in that format..

It’s such a great compilation of many works from eminent experts and enthusiasts in the mycology field- mushrooms and fungi lovers would love this book! So, it is highly accessible for everyone.As this is a collection of others' work and that work is primarily art, it's really not the easiest book to review. That being said, both the things the curator controls and the things they don't are well-done. The selections are great, and the diversity of art styles while still maintaining the theme of scientific botanical drawings were well-chosen.
