About this deal

Artefacts of power are equally divides with Slann being able to carry the Spacefolder’s Stave that allows to summon the next unit (once per turn) within 7″ of enemy units instead of 9″, and Skinks can use the Sacred Stegadon Helm that gives +1 save and when charging +1 damage on melee. Coalesced rules in Seraphon Army Two boxes give all the conversions heroes, two combinations Carnosaurs/Troglodon and a better sized Saurus units (20 Warriors and 15 Knights), building around 1490 points if you build the most expensive models points wise. It also opens up a Battalion, the Firelance Starhost/Temple-Host (both 160 points) with 3 units of 5 Knights and one of the Scar-Veterans. Independently from which faction you choose, Saurus would want to get into melee early on and keep the enemies away from the objectives, Skinks instead would harass your enemy retrieving all objectives not covered by your opponent and screening the important parts of your army.

The synergy between those units is guaranteed by some battalions, in particular the Firelance Starhost uses a Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur and the Saurus Knights allowing the latter to do extra damage on charge.

The main trait of Starborne rotates around the cosmic nodes: friendly Starborne wizards, Astrolith Bearers and Realmshaper Engines. At the start of your hero phase, you receive a cosmic point for each wizard or Astrolith Bearer on the battlefield. In addition you receive 1 cosmic point for each time a friendly Starborne wizard successfully casts an unbound spell, unbinds a spell, or dispels an endless spell. Instead, they are so imbued with energies from Azyr that they may appear as magical entities. Those with strong links with the Realm of Heavens, still living in the space vessels are called Starborne. It's possible to build the Chief version of the ridders, but it doesn't seen optimal for a starter to do so)

The Start Collecting box that gets our vote for “the next one to be discontinued,” there’s not a ton this particular box has to offer. Tactical Marines just don’t have much value when you’d rather run Scouts or Intercessors, the Terminator Captain doesn’t bring much to the table when you have other, more mobile, better-equipped, cheaper options, and the Venerable Dreadnought is only OK. You’re better off skipping this one for the Marine half of the Dark Imperium Starter. Contents: 1 Farseer (HQ), 5 Wraithguard/Wraithblades (Elites), 1 Wraithlord (Heavy Support), 1 War Walker (Heavy Support)Note: this article was made prior to the December 2019 points update, so some points could have changed there. Value of the Start Collecting Seraphon box Those instead that started settling in the Mortal Realms are called Coalesced and are now more brutal and primordial than their space-faring cousins. The temples that descended on the ground started terraforming the surroundings to resemble the Seraphon original jungles that they now protect as their own habitat. While Lord Kroak knows all spells from his lore, normal Slann can benefit from the heroic action Contemplation of the Ancient Ones that allows them to swap known spell in the right situation. Tech-priest Dominuses have fallen out of favor recently, which is a shame because Ad Mech still field Vanguard and Rangers on a regular basis to fill out Battalions and the Dunecrawler is a legitimately good unit that sees lots of competitive play. It’s still a great boxed set to start building off of, but some of the savings are mitigated by the fact that you probably won’t want a Tech-Priest Dominus in your army.

While this start collecting doesn't give conversions options or alternative models, it has some really good units. With a extra unity of Skink it's possible to get the Shadostrike Starhost/Temple-Host (170/150 points) Battalion. The Terradon Chief is the leader of the Terradon unit and really is useful only to trigger their “bombardment” on a 2+ instead of 4+ once per battle. In itself this ability allows to roll a dice and allocate D3 mortal wounds to an enemy unit they moved or ran across. If at least one wound is allocated, the enemy movement is also halved until your next hero phase. I enjoy taking a concept and dialling it up to 11, smashing together as many different kits as it takes to fulfil my vision. My armies may not be to everyone’s tastes, but I sure do love making them. Build one Saurus Hero on Carnosaur, magnetized to represent either the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur or Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur.

Sergeant ‘Ripper’ Jackson

Coalesced are the more monster-focussed and Saurus based army, increasing the damage output and resistance of your units. One Saurus Astrolith Bearer from the last Saurus Warrior model, with kitbash from your now-massive Seraphon bits collection. Saurus Warriors Spears & Command sprues, which has the heads, spear-wielding arms, banner-wielding arm, two banners toppers, arm holding a drum, arms holding mallets,s.

This box is coming with a pretty good base for building a Seraphon army. With that said, if you’re starting from scratch, you’ll probably want to buy at least two, maybe three of these honestly. Now that you have an idea of what kind of army you want to run, you need to know what models to buy. Thankfully you have a lot of flexibility here. As stated above, allegiances don’t really affect what units you can use (though they do grant a certain preference). We’re going to look at 3 possible options, with room to expand. Saurus Heavy Overall there are only few units that are not performing well, but there’s so much variety that can satisfy anyone from the top competitive players to the casual ones that love roaring with their big dinosaurs and have a fun game. The total points of the box is therefore 410 (or 310 if you go for the Troglodon build), plus some leftover models.
