Ultimately, the film on its own has merits – a solid cast, handsome production values, another great John and Cody Carpenter score and some interesting themes being explored. But in terms of delivering what was very clearly promised, on what has been talked up by Green, Curtis et al for years now, the trilogy and this film in particular cannot help but disappoint, even with the weight of those heady expectations removed.

again be slashing through Haddonfield (though hopefully not outer space) on the silver screen once again in the future when some filmmaker The audio commentary features director and co-writer David Gordon Green, production assistant Hugo Garza, and co-producer/first assistant director Atilla Salih Yucher, with actors Andi Matichak and Rohan Campbell joining in via Zoom. It’s an upbeat chat between the five with some good information about the production doled out, and it’s apparent that they all seemed to genuinely have a good time working together. It tends to drop out occasionally, but not for long, and David Gordon Green is primarily in the driver’s seat. It’s kind of frustrating that they mention or allude to other behind-the-scenes moments and deleted scenes that are not included with this release because, as such, the bonus materials (outside of the commentary) are fluffy, self-inflating, and lawyer-approved. It’s basically EPK type material about how great the film is without getting much into the nitty gritty. Final Girl examines Jamie Lee Curtis’ impact on the franchise while No Place in Haddonfield talks about the town, the people in it, and how Michael has affected them. Ending Halloween discusses closing the book on this trilogy of films, A Different Threat talks about Corey, and The Visions of Terror talks about Michael and his look. Last is Twisted Deaths, which discusses the various death scenes and how they were achieved. It’s announced that Halloween Ends will take place 4 years after its predecessor, Halloween Kills. The COVID-19 pandemic will also play a part in the story. ( Source: Collider) Halloween Ends is typical of most studio horror films shot in the 21 st century – shot digitally on Arri Alexa cameras, with the anamorphic process used to mimic the original look and feel of the original films, resulting in a 4K digital intermediate. And this is the basis of the native 3840 x 2160p resolution image presented here, with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio that uses 10-bit video depth, has a WCG and both HDR10/Dolby Vision passes applied and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec. The 4K UHD release of Halloween Ends released on December 27 and is loaded with a variety of special features. While it doesn’t include an extended cut of the film like the release of Halloween Kills did, it does include a selection of deleted and extended scenes that give a better idea of what the filmmakers were going for when they made the film. Seeing the crew explain their thought process about how Halloween Ends was made does help somewhat with understanding why the film turned out the way it does, though personally the ending of the film still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

However, that doesn't mean Halloween Ends can't be approached as a finale, because that's definitely what the marketing wants you to think.

Halloween Ends does eventually come to the face-off that it's promised and delivers on it in bloody style. We've seen many Laurie vs Michael variations before, but Green finds a fresh angle on it to add a definitive flourish. Halloween Ends may prove to be the most divisive entry in the series since Halloween III, and that film only because it really had nothing to do Instead, Halloween Ends is about something else altogether, and that will prove frustrating for fans. Like Halloween Kills, it expands the mythology and legacy of Michael Myers, putting a new-ish spin on the series. We've seen similar takes before, although if we pointed out the Halloween sequels Ends closely resembles, it could be a spoiler. As Corey gets most of the screen time, this leads the film to an unexcitingly bland final showdown between iconic final girl Jamie Lee Curtis and The Shape. If we'd gotten to know Corey earlier, the focus on him could have meant more, but as a late-in-the-game pinch-hitter killer, he misses the ball. While Laurie and Corey get the most character care and attention, Allyson is frustratingly pushed to the side. After playing a strong and interesting character in the last two films, she just sorta sits there as a passive and irrational plot device instead of someone with an arc.

trying something different, but fans will immediately think of several more interesting ways that the character could have been integrated into the The most acclaimed and revered horror franchise in film history reaches its epic, terrifying finale as Laurie Strode (Curtis) faces off for the last time against the embodiment of evil, Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney)," Universal's official synopsis for Halloween Ends reads. "Michael hasn't been seen for four years after the events of Halloween Kills. Laurie lives with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and has chosen to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. When a young man is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, a cascade of violence and terror is ignited with a final confrontation between Laurie and Michael unlike any ever captured on screen. Only one of them will survive." To be fair - I didn’t hate Halloween Ends. I do not think this is the worst film of the franchise. I actually thought the character of Corey was a genuinely brilliant addition to the franchise. I thought that Laurie Strode masking her pain by trying to be “tits-out” domestic grandma was a smart avenue for her character as she and Allyson cope with their loss. I loved all of this stuff because it felt real and emotionally raw and was actually a smart path to take for a franchise riddled with stupidity. My problem with Halloween Ends is this was the exact wrong time to pull this particular story card.
