About this deal

This paperback edition of Jung’s classic work includes a new foreword by Sonu Shamdasani, Philemon Professor of Jung History at University CollegeLondon. Accept your neighbor as he is and don’t try to change him, or compare his deeds with some perfect idealistic demands. If we want to look behind the curtain of our apparent psyche, we can only do so if we approach this task with a free and open mind. If men knew themselves, the decisions they make would be better for their psyche because they would know what it is they truly need. The twenty volumes, including a Bibliography and a General Index, were translated from the original German by R.

Information in this part may include vulnerabilities, sensitive feelings, fears, and secrets, as well as characteristics you may be ashamed of.The goal and meaning of individual life (which is the only real life) no longer lie in the individual development but in the policy of the State, which is thrust upon the individual from outside and consists in the execution of an abstract idea which ultimately tends to attract all life to itself. This essay brings together Jung’s fully evolved thoughts on the analysis of dreams and the healing of the rift between consciousness and the unconscious, ideas that are central to his system of psychology. Only by gaining an awareness and understanding of one's unconscious mind and true, inner nature—"the undiscovered self"—can we as individuals acquire the self-knowledge that is antithetical to ideological fanaticism.

Even worse, we don’t think that there is part of ourselves that is being oppressed or left unexplored. Psychogenesis of Mental Disease, volume 3 in The Collected Works, shows the development of Jung's thoughts about the nature of mental illness, and established him as a pioneer and scientific contributor to psychiatry.

This may be because you do not have the ability to share, or because you are trying to protect yourself. He believes self-knowledge is the beginning to start answering questions, and encourages the reader to realize that men believe themselves to be good because they only know their consciousness. And here, by objects, Carl Jung is not referring only to physical things, but also to religion and the State. He gives a clear example in which he says that socialist dictatorships can take the place of God, becoming religions and therefore, state slavery becomes a form of worship.

You could also work towards increasing your awareness of your Blind Self (“Ask”), or exploring your Undiscovered Self (“Explore”) part to make room for future growth. I can therefore see it only as a delusion when the Churches try—as they apparently do—to rope the individual into some social organization and reduce him to a condition of diminished responsibility, instead of raising him out of the torpid, mindless mass and making clear to him that he is the one important factor and that the salvation of the world consists in the salvation of the individual soul.
