About this deal

Drivers are prohibited from using any device that attaches to the ear, including Bluetooth headsets/earphones

Holidays are a happy time, but with so much potential for adventure, always carry a basic first aid kit and enough water for everyone in the car. Remember to bring hand sanitiser, you’ll be thankful if you get caught short between rest stops, where soap may not be provided. The UK and EU have agreed an extension to Article 50 until 31 October at the latest, with the option to leave earlier as soon as a deal has been ratified. Motorists must always carry a warning triangle and reflective high-visibility vest. These are included in our handy AA Euro Travel Kit, which can also be found in the AA shop at our Folkestone terminal This is just as important if you regularly drive abroad as it is if you're planning your first trip as rules and requirements do change. France for example has introduced several significant changes recently, and there are more to come. You get the very basics for most of Europe in this Halfords set, although you’ll need to buy breathalysers separately to stay strictly legal in France

If you’re planning a road trip abroad, then come to Halfords for your European travel essentials. We’ve got a huge range of driving accessories that will ensure you stay on the right side of the law when you’re driving on the right-hand side of the road. Special note for Australia:We have been advised that parcels are currently expected to take 15-25 working daysto arrive to Australia, depending on the location. This is due to measures being taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We are currently taking steps to try to reduce this delivery time as much as possible. When planning a driving holiday in a different country, road safety and preparation are just as important as planning your comedy selfie at the Eiffel Tower, or your outfit for a leisurely cruise along the canals of Bruges. You may want to go everywhere and see everything but the way to plan a road trip in Europe is to be realistic about how much you can see and do. Road trips are a lot of fun but as with any holiday, you need to factor in things that may be out of your control, such as traffic jams, bad weather, and making detours for food and rest. Plot in some anchor stops but be flexible to avoid disappointment if you don’t get to every place you hoped to. Do your research Hi-vis vests are a legal requirement in most countries and you should ideally have one for each person in the car. They need to be instantly accessible, so in the glovebox or under a seat, rather than in the boot. Spare bulbs are a good idea but only recommended, while a first aid kit is compulsory in Austria.

So while no deal remains the legal default at the end of this extension period, it's now unlikely that there will be any changes affecting European travel this summer e.g. you will not need to carry an IDP or insurance green card to drive in an EU country.

Need to make a claim after your trip?

The French Government recommend that all cars use dipped headlights at all times. It is compulsory for motorcycles to do so. It is especially important that drivers use dipped headlights in poor daytime visibility. We suggest putting both a digital GPS and a paper map on your road trip essentials list. A digital GPS can predict route and journey times, nearby fuel, food stops and speed restrictions, plus, a clear GPS location will help emergency services or roadside assistance locate you in the event of an emergency. Keep a paper map in the glove box in case your GPS malfunctions or loses signal. If you're planning to drive abroad from the UK it's important to familiarise yourself with local rules for drivers before you go. Prices shown include an introductory discount. Annual prices may be higher on renewal after the first year. Prices are for new customers only.
