About this deal

One of the main characters has a golden retriever (named after the author's childhood dog). This is something I like very much! 🐕🐕🐕 The police investigation uncovers that the cup Simon drank from was laced with peanut oil. Since the four students in detention with him had access to the cup, Bronwyn, Addy, Nate and Cooper become the main suspects. The police also discover an unpublished About That entry that features rumors about the four students. The post accuses Addy of cheating on Jake; Bronwyn of cheating to pass a class; Nate of dealing drugs, even though he is on probation; and Cooper of using performance-enhancing steroids. The entry casts more suspicion on the four, and soon, not only is the local media reporting the story, but the national media, too.

Keely Soria: Cooper's ex-girlfriend, who he pretended to like so he wouldn't be found out for being gay. Add in the fact that this cast is similar to the stereotypical cast of characters found in The Breakfast Club, one of the best movies EVER created, and you have an equation for a near perfect book for Megs! The mystery wasn’t as twisty as in the first book in my opinion. I figured out who was responsible for the game fairly early on but figuring out the why and how was what kept me glued. Seeing how it all came together was fun, especially once the dares took on a deadly twist. Leave it to the kids of Bayview to turn a game into something sinister. Of course McManus threw in a lil curveball at the end that I totally didn’t see coming - bonus! Ya’ll know how much I love a fun, plot twisty but fitting surprise!! 😳 ⁣ Also, Karen M. McManus can really write characters! I don’t know how she managed to juggle three main characters along with at least five side characters while flushing them ALL out perfectly! Honestly, this woman is talented and I will never not be addicted to her books. There are a couple of characters in the book that are said to be depressed and one of them was Simon, the boy who died. The final plot twist is that Simon wasn't murdered, but killed himself. Again, I think that some of Simon's feelings that surround his depression could be very relateable to teenagers, but I had three huge issues with how his suicide was portrayed.

I have to admit that a big part of why I liked the book so much was because of Nate. Compare to the other members of Bayview Four (the stars of the previous book), I’m extremely elated that he’s being referenced a fair amount of time and tagged along in some of the scenes. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have rated this like I did. Yeah, I know, I’m totally biased and hopelessly besotted with some cliche and fictional teenage bad boy. #SorryNotSorry The whole school starts playing Truth or Dare. Some enjoy it and they choose Dare. Some hate it, ignore the warning and an awful truth about them is revealed. Everyone wanted that bastard dead, he was spreading everyone’s dirty laundry on social media, not directly giving names, but accusing them of various things in a manner that I can only describe as petty and annoying. Like, I would’ve punched him in the mouth several times if I’d ever laid my eyes on him on the school hallways. I enjoyed One of Us is Lying and when I heard there was a sequel coming out, I JUMPED at the chance to get a copy! Friends, I am disappointed. I went into the book with extremely high expectations, so I have no one but myself to blame. It’s a very entertaining show! Twisty and turny. Very dark. I’ve gasped a few times. Viola Davis is a national treasure.

And then I remember why About That was so popular for so long. Because even though I hate Unknown, and it freaks me out that they revealed a secret I thought would never get out, and the idea of another Simon Kelleher prowling around Bayview High is straight-up nauseating – I can’t help being curious. the writing and the pacing had me feeling like I was binge watching an addictive Netflix series. If that's not an indicator of a good book then I don't know what is. One of us is lying novel is based on a dark teen drama of the same name that was released on October 7, 2021. One of us is lying was published on 29 May 2017, by Penguin Random House and was created by Erica Saleh. Tightly plotted and brilliantly written, with sharp, believable characters, this whodunit is utterly irresistible' - HEAT

These are only my opinions, and I would never dream of disrespecting anyone who disagrees with my review, so please show the same courtesy and don't hate me for what I'm about to say. ❤ Jake Riordan: Addy's boyfriend and old friend of Simon's. He has a controlling nature, and when Addy's secret comes to light, he breaks up with her. You, you're a murder suspect and all your secrets are gonna be exposed, have a nicE LIFE!!! Want a cookie? :)) Depression is something I know personally and have watched family members deal with, and how this book handled it was like a stab in the gut. Is this really what the world thinks of me? Again, not saying you have to agree with my thoughts on it, but this hurt me and affected my enjoyment of the book. I just think these twists are so tired and perpetuate stigmas against LGBTQIA+ people and people with mental illness. This book would make a great movie! Karen M. McManus did a great job for a debut, I'm already looking forward to reading her future books. I had high hopes for this book. No I did't I'm lying ! My fifteen year old niece has been urging, cajoling, threatening me ! This is the bestest ever!! she squealed, yelled, gushed. My bf would look at her and then look at me...with that better you than me glance.

Before detention is over for the day, Simon is dead, and apparently, it wasn't an accident. It's not long before investigators discover that the next day, Simon was planning to publish items about Cooper, Bronwyn, Addy, and Nate—items which could potentially destroy all of their lives. Suddenly the four of them are the suspects in Simon's murder, and are pariahs among their fellow students, most of whom hated Simon until he died, then turned him into a tragic figure. Now, there is a copycat but they mean business. And their weapon of choice is truth or dare. Either you take a dare or a truth is revealed. Phoebe is the first target and when she doesn’t take the dare, her deepest, darkest secret is revealed.Next comes Maeve, who skips the dare. By the time it comes to Knox, things are starting to become dangerous. The Bayview Four have been cleared of any crimes, and for the most part, they have moved on with their lives. The teens all tried their best to leave that traumatic period where it belongs; in the past. Adelaide "Addy" Prentiss: One of the four point-of-view characters; the ' princess'. Is one of the popular students at the school. She is besotted with her boyfriend, Jake, but her secret is that she cheated on him with TJ, another boy within their friendship group. She eventually confesses to Jake, who breaks up with her. She is comforted by her older sister, Ashton, who helps her through the break-up and with her self-discovery.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what it would be about. I felt like the story had been pretty well wrapped up but I wasn’t about to NOT read it… I mean that would be crazy.
