About this deal

They both are designed in very similar fashion, of course, so they do share a striking resemblance. But the LP60X is a more refined machine, and I think that (just purely from an aesthetics point of view) it looks better on a table or cabinet than the LP-60 did. Moving to a dedicated phono stage offers a nice upgrade path. With a Cambridge Audio Duo connected, the bass firmed up and the upper registers came into a clearer focus. I haven't heard the Schitt Mani but it doesn't seem unreasonable to spend the same as the Audio-Technica again on a good phono preamp -- especially when the AT already gives you so much turntable for so little. Easy like Sunday morning Now, as you hover over the record player, you simply look down to see which button does which, thanks to Audio-Technica moving this text up from the front panel to the top of the turntable in front of the dust cover. If you’re looking for the Too Long Didn’t Read (TLDR) version of my review, here it is: The Audio Technica AT-LP60X is a great turntable for entry-level vinyl enthusiasts.

This affordable, easy-to-use turntable plays both 33 and 45 RPM records and with its built-in switchable phono preamp, can be connected directly into your home stereo, active bookshelf speakers or other speaker system without needing any additional equipment. Three stars may appear harsh for a budget product offering so much in the way of functionality. If you were buying it based on price and features alone, it would be good value for money, but the AT-LP60XBT just falls short of our being able to recommend it to those semi-serious about their vinyl. And lastly, the AT-LP60XHP that has a headphone output with volume control and comes with headphones included.

Plastic, but not a toy

It’s designed to improve on its well-regarded predecessor without leaving its comfort zone in terms of price. But is it possible to advance the quality of performance without adding to the price?

We don’t get audiophile sound from the AT-LP60X. But we get very good sound for the price. Impressively good sound for the price, I will say. The AT-LP60X allows it’s dust cover to come down, with about an inch (maybe less) or room to remain in the front. And that extra room serves as a description panel for the front facing buttons. So now, you can—from the top down—see which button changes the speed of the record player, which button starts and stops the turntable, and which button lifts the tonearm up and down.First, after you’ve taken everything out of the box, place the large circular platter onto the AT-LP60X. You’re going to want the rectangular opening that has the red ribbon attached exposes the motor pulley. The motor pulley is made of brass, and its located in the upper left hand corner of the record player. This pulley is where you’re going to have to install the belt. Two powered speakers that will be great companions for the AT-LP60X are the Audioengine A5 Plus and the Edifier S1000DB. The AT-LP60X is a fully automatic turntable. With the push of a button, it starts up and place the tonearm at the beginning at the record. When the record ends, the tonearm automatically return to its resting position. The AT-LP60X is a great entry-level turntable that punches far above its weight class. It basically has no competition in its exact price range. It is fully automatic and easy to use. Considered the affordable price, it sounds very good, also in Bluetooth operation. If you set the switch to PHONO, you will need to use the PHONO input on a receiver or powered speakers with a preamp built-in. In this setting, the preamp that is built into the AT-LP60X will be bypassed.

TWO SPEEDS: The LP60X can play both 33 rpm and 45 rpm records. A simple switch allows you to choose the turntable speed and the record size. Currently, there isn’t a model that includes all the features, so you have to select which options that are most important for you. If you need any. The standard version is also great and makes it possible to get into vinyl very cheaply. Setting Up However, the Audio-Technica’s real party-piece, though, is its ability to connect wirelessly to your system, smart speaker or similar. And the most significant upgrade here over the old AT-LP60BT is the appearance of aptX Bluetooth standard wireless streaming – hence the “X” in the model name. Being able to stream at this kind of standard is an obvious plus-point – as long as the Audio-Technica is doing its analogue-to-digital conversion effectively, of course. USB Function: PC or Mac with an available USB port (USB1.1 or higher) Windows 7 or above, or Mac OS X or above

This turntable is best for when you want to enjoy records in high quality but with complete ease of use. One thing you wouldn't expect from an ultra-budget turntable is that the sound quality would scale with more expensive equipment. Hook a music jewellery box up to a costly stereo system, for example, and all you'll hear is louder tinkling. The Audio-Technica, on the other hand, really shone with a more expensive system where the bass in particular was able to stretch out.
