About this deal

Swatch set the watch world abuzz at the end of March 2022. In the run up to this, the Swiss watch giant had partnered with its subsidiary Omega for a re-interpretation of one of history's most famous timepieces: the legendary Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, i.e., the first watch on the Moon. When the Omega Speedmaster was selected by NASA for spaceflight, no matter what the mission or watch model, the one thing all flown watches had in common was their deployment on a bespoke NASA issue Velcro strap. Mission to Saturn – A tan case with a dark brown bezel and subdials and “rings” around the bottom subdial. All of the eleven MoonSwatch models pay tribute to one of the planetary bodies in our Solar System, as seen with their case and dial colors. The models that will catch your eye the most are probably the Mission to the Sun and Mission to Neptune. The former shines in a bright, lemon yellow, while the Neptune model stands out with its rich blue hues.

The watch is an all-out assault of blue. You might be tempted to try and offset this all-blue visage, but I’m of the opinion to just roll with it here. It’s funny because Ben’s strap combination was the first thing I thought of when I first saw the Mission To Neptune images. I very nearly bought this exact model for this exact strap combo. Where is this strap from, you ask? Well, it’s another from Artem straps.Looking for a MoonSwatch that's in keeping with the original Omega? Look no further than the Mission to the Moon. This model's colors, lettering and numbers, and overall look are nearly identical to the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. An alternative here is also the Mission to Mercury, whose gray tones give it a unique look that is nevertheless faithful to the classic Speedy.

If you are not familiar with these radical co-branded gems from Omega and Swatch, here is a brief introduction. The MoonSwatch family looks like Speedmasters and even has Omega and Speedmaster written on them. However, appearances can be deceptive. The 42mm case is not steel but an ultra-light Bioceramic material which is one third responsibly sourced plastic and two thirds ceramic. The result is an incredibly light watch weighing only 29g. The hands, pushers and the tachymeter scale are thoroughly Speedmaster in appearance with hour, minute and chronograph markers coated with Super-Luminova. Unlike the original Speedmaster which is in limited colour palates, the USP of the MoonSwatch (other than its price) is that they are produced in eleven striking colours, each one inspired by a different planet in our solar system. Your chosen planet, for example Saturn, appears on the rear battery hatch which covers the ETA V8 quartz movement. OK, so the MoonSwatch might not quite yet be widely available online, but there’s no harm in making sure you’re fully prepared for when it is. I didn’t get my Mission To Mercury on the day of release. I had to wait until a couple of weeks after the launch, but the wait was worth it. Why? Because I was fully prepared with my replacement strap, ready to go. Swatch’s contribution comes in the form of a patented material called BIOCERAMIC. This material is a blend of ceramic and a plastic that’s derived from castor oil. Believe it or not, it’s actually more durable than ceramic alone, and it’s used to create the bezel. Just as importantly, BIOCERAMIC is easier to color than ordinary ceramic. That’s how they were able to create some of the unique tones you’ll see on the MoonSwatch’s bezel. The advantage of rubber is that it is a durable product and it can take a beating. Especially if you are going to use the Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch as a daily watch, a rubber strap is actually always recommended. This is because sweat minimally affects the strap and therefore it keeps longer. In addition, it is comfortable. One of the other big advantages is that rubber can be made in any color you want. Therefore, we are free to make the best possible combination with the color of the MoonSwatch. Oh yes, and a few more useful facts about rubber watch bands: hypoallergenic and water-resistant. Nice to tell at a party. All dials feature the OMEGA X SWATCH branding, the iconic Speedmaster logo and the new MoonSwatch logo. A closer look at the glass construction reveals the "hidden" 'S' integrated in the centre of the crystal. The circular pattern on the dial's outer ring and subdials brings a refined touch to the design, complementing the sharp and smooth lugs construction. The hours, minutes, chronograph seconds hands and hour markers sport Super-LumiNova for a perfect glow in the dark. Apollo 15 had instructions to undertake EVA moonwalks and more distant exploration using the new Lunar Rover. To many Apollo fans, 15 is therefore the definitive mission as the astronauts explored so much more of the surface than previous visits which had been restricted to walking distance.

Omega Speedmaster , Bulova Lunar Pilot, and the Omega+Swatch MoonSwatch . There is a Moonwatch for every budget and an authentic Lunar strap to wear them all on . Mission to Jupiter – A bronze case with a warm tan dial, evocative of our solar system’s largest planet. The Mission To The Moon is the most “classic” looking of all the MoonSwatches. The dial is straight out of the Moonwatch playbook, and the lighter gray BioCeramic clearly aims to mimic the metallic color of the Moonwatch’s steel case. I feel that this makes straps a little easier to some degree, as if it works for the Moonwatch, it’ll likely work for the MoonSwatch. There is one exception, however: please don’t go putting steel bracelets on your MoonSwatch. It’s not big, and it’s not clever. Nobody is laughing with you; we’re laughing at you. Like pastel tones? Then be sure to have a look at the Mission to Uranus or Mission to Venus, in light blue and powder pink, respectively. The Venus model also features oval-shaped subdials that have tiny ornamentation within their outer rings, giving this model an extra-playful feel compared to the others in the collection. Something for everyone, and that’s how we are. Do you have the famous and most beloved Mercury? No problem then almost all combinations will fit for you. The Moon ditto. Almost every watch strap in terms of style and color in our collection will fit these most sought-after toppers. But also for the Venus, Earth or Saturn we made no exception. For anyone who has an Omega X Swatch MoonSwatch, we have a replacement strap for the Velcro strap. Because say it yourself, that could be better, right? No, you grow up. The Mission To Uranus inevitably garnered memes and jokes aplenty at the time of launch. It doesn’t matter how old we are or how serious we can be; butt jokes are always funny. Once we got past the sniggers and laughs, we found the Mission To Uranus was a bright little beaut. Those baby-blue tones are refreshingly unisex, and the white bezel is the perfect complement. As a side line it is also worth pointing out that Moonwatches look great on NATOs. Whilst NATOS were never used on any NASA missions the military chronograph style of these watches really lends them favourably to NATO straps and there are many options which give you the classic “over the spacesuit” look.

That's where the similarities stop. As opposed to the Omega timepiece, the MoonSwatch's case is made of Swatch's proprietary BIOCERAMIC. This ceramic blend is made of two-thirds ceramic, and one-third synthetic material derived from castor oil. This achieves a very lightweight case that can be made in various colors, which Swatch has taken full advantage of for these timepieces. There are a total of eleven color varieties named after planetary bodies in our Solar System: the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, the Moon (of course), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. A Velcro strap keeps the MoonSwatch securely on the wrist. The aptly-named MoonSwatch has the exact dimensions and design of the original Omega, including "lyre" or twisted lugs, and a wider right case flank that serves to protect the crown and pushers. You'll also find a tachymeter bezel with the "Dot over 90", as well as slightly stepped subdials that the MoonSwatch adopted from the famous Moonwatch. Some MoonSwatch design elements are taken from particularly sought-after Speedmaster models such as the " Ultraman" or "Alaska Project". Along with the Swatch and MoonSwatch logos, the dial also contains the Omega logo and the famous Speedmaster lettering.

Now, I know this is just four of the 11 MoonSwatch Models, but we don’t have the complete set between the team. With that in mind, I’d love to hear from the Fratelli who own their own MoonSwatches. Have you swapped out your strap? If so, what did you go for? Let me know in the comments! As you would expect from ZULUDIVER we did not compromise on quality with the strap being made from high strength slanted nylon using a unique shuttleless weaving process which offers superior friction resistance and colour retention. The military grade non-fray hook and loop fastening system is hypoallergenic and will work in temperatures as low as -30 degrees. It should securely open and close more than 5000 times. The matt, corrosion resistant, steel loop is embossed with the ZULUDIVER name. When you get a new watch, you want to strap it on and start enjoying it as soon as possible. Knowing you want to replace the strap right away and not having the replacement on hand can dampen the “New Watch Alert” fun somewhat. I’ve been there before, leaving some watches for days or even weeks until I had the right strap. Thankfully, when my Mission To Mercury arrived, I had the strap waiting on my desk, ready to go. Knowing I’m not alone and that a fair few others have expressed their preference for a different strap, I thought I’d put together a few options I’d seen, which I thought looked like good alternative strap options for the MoonSwatch. I don’t have options for every Mission here, so let me know in the comments if you have some suggestions. Sharing is caring! Style is something you either have or you don’t. But if you’ve bought a MoonSwatch then style will be fine. We have every confidence in that. Should it be that you still need some tips look in our lookbook. We have a compilation of the possible combinations per style watch. Some are more than others but always an option in terms of possibility. Here you have for example the lookbook of Jupiter and Pluto. There are plenty of choices for where to grab one for yourself, but the MoonSwatch in the images belongs to our Social Media Manager, Sinara. Her watch is on the excellent Bond NATO from Australian strap supplier, Artem Straps. Nacho, our Managing Editor, reviewed Artem’s NATO straps earlier this year and was very impressed. Given how neatly this Bond strap complements the Mission To The Moon, I don’t think you can go far wrong.
