About this deal

I really liked reading Hamish and the Worldstoppers and I was overjoyed when I heard that there is going to be a sequel. The illustations throughout the book by Jamie Littler bring it to life.

Within every pause, the creatures known as the worldstoppers come to terrorize the town, but of course no one knows, except for the PDF. At the end of the book there is a massive battle between the PDF and the worldstoppers. In the past, Hamish's Dad had been taken by the worldstoppers (or so he thinks), and after the battle he goes to save him, but it turns out that he is gone. I’ve enjoyed everything of Danny Wallace’s that I’ve read, and given that I’ve read quite a few of his books, that’s quite the accolade. He just has an easy way with words that makes his stuff enjoyable, whether you’re reading children’s books, adult fiction or the non-fiction that helped to launch his career. The first thing to say here is that even though this book is written for children, I still thought that there was a lot there for me to enjoy as an adult. Part of that is probably due to the fact that I’m a Danny Wallace fan and find that he’s generally pretty funny whether he’s writing for kids or adults. In fact, he does what a lot of writers don’t manage to do by writing for children without speaking down to them. However, I would not say that this is an exceptional children's book. Or even a very good children's book. I'd say... it's a fun little book. Oh, and they hate children. Especially if you're a child who knows about them. Hang on - You know now, don't you? Oh dear. Having saved the world from the evil Worldstoppers in 2015, Hamish and his friends in the PDF are again faced with the threat of world domination by an evil mastermind. This time it's Scarmarsh and his deadly zap, which blanks people's brains and leaves them powerless to oppose him. Hamish is also searching for his father, a member of Belasko, a secret organisation dedicated to outwitting any force trying to harm the Earth. Best-selling writer, Danny Wallace, turned his hand to children’s fction with his debut Hamish and the WorldStoppers. Filled with his trademark humour, this fantasy adventure series was inspired by the books that set Wallace’s own young imagination alight. Everyone loves Hamish! The frst two books have received fantastic praise and children nationwide have devoured his stories. Hamish is a thoroughly endearing character and Danny’s writing has a sense of humour that appeals to kids and parents alike. Danny has collaborated with leading illustrator Jamie Littler, who brings the world of Hamish to life with his quirky illustrations that ooze child appeal.

Hamish and the WorldStoppers | Book by Danny Wallace, Jamie

What a fun little book. I thoroughly enjoyed the newspaper clippings at the beginning and end of the story, they had me laughing out loud.Readers who enjoy this should also like Frank Cottrell Boyce’s The Astounding Broccoli Boy, another tale of children caught up in a bizarre and very funny adventure.

Hamish and his friends try to stop the worldstoppers from taking over the city.I liked Hamish the most becauseThis book takes you through all the emotions with happy moments, sad moments, creepy scary moments and hilarious moments. It really appealed to our sense of humour and we both laughed out loud almost every night. A hilarious adventure from presenter and bestselling author Danny Wallace brought to life with illustrations from Jamie Littler, perfect for fans of David Walliams, Roald Dahl, David Baddiel and David Solomons! Sometimes the world just stops, it pauses, the birds, the aeroplanes, and all the people on it, everything except for ten-year-old Hamish Ellerby. The world is paused by the evil Worldstoppers and their dreadful friends The Terribles, who sabotage it and plan to take it over for themselves. Hamish finds out other people can also beat the pauses and they defend humanity as the Pause Defence Force. But can they save the world together? And it's being caused by The WorldStoppers and their terrifying friends The Terribles! They have a PLAN! They want to take our world for their own . . . Oh, and they hate children. Especially if you're a child who knows about them. Chosen as one of the Top Ten Best New Books for Children 2015 by Andrea Reece. Danny Wallace is well-known as comedian, actor and TV presenter. Now he’s a children’s author too, and a very good one. Hamish lives in Britain’s fourth-most boring town but life gets very exciting when one day Hamish notices that the whole world has stopped: planes; cars; people. Everything in fact - except him. What follows is a fast moving, funny sci-fi adventure. There’s lots that’s very silly but some sharp one-liners too and droll descriptions. Hamish and his friends are engaging characters, and the baddies something else altogether! This will have anyone aged 8 and up in stitches. ~ Andrea Reece
