About this deal

First we went to the library to check out the book, and then set out to make this strange concoction. When you are reading a highly popular series that is also old it's hard not to see spoilers so out of my deductions from living on bookstagram I have made a few predictions but time will tell as I continue the series with Heir of Fire. For this book, I would take advantage of the sounds and have children draw a map of how to get to their favorite food and what kind of noises might they encounter during their excursion to the food. We loved this though, particularly Michael's crazed sugar lust ramblings and Kevin's glorious good-enough-to-eat choccy cake illustrations. This is a great book for use in schools when teaching children about past tense or how to recount something.

I’m pretty sure that all parents of small children will have read at least one book my Michael Rosen to their child. Of course, eating a couple of crumbs off the plate turns into cutting off one small slice, and then another, until the boy realises he’s eaten the whole cake. Short and highly entertaining, it's a funny little book that will make young children giggle a lot as well as be drawn to the colourful drawings of his tale! The descriptions are also brilliant, bringing the events and tastes to life in the imagination of the reader.

The story is about a little boy (a little Michael Rosen really) sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night, when everyone else is fast asleep, to look at a big chocolate cake his mum has made… and then, of course, he’s unable to resist having a few crumbs… and then a bit more… until the whole cake is gone! Then spread a layer of ganache on the top surface of the cake, making sure that you have an even coating. as Harold’s book on children’s language was my bible during my B Ed years at Goldsmiths( 1966-70) and Connie lectured us too, Your poetry has delighted my children and now my grandchildren . After Michael Rosen’s fantabulous answers to my questions on Thurs, I wanted to share with you the book which brought about the Q and A.

Makes: 10 x 3-inch round cake Preparation: 20 minutes Try these other pan options Two 8- or 9- inch round pans. Dad (old enough to know better) and Daughter (young enough to be a smarty pants) still love books even though our blog has quietly retired now. Michael picking up crumbs can be used if he's seen typing something or pressing buttons (see 256Pi's Michael's Last Ice Cream to Me Every Dead Floor Roaring Downstairs, where this is used when Michael hijacks a train). The poem really is funny and tells a little story about when Michael Rosen’s was a boy and his mum would make chocolate cake which was his favourite snack. Too often, I find the kinds of chocolate cakes at birthday parties or events spongy and bland, not chocolaty enough to satisfy, not toothsome in the way I believe a cake absolutely should be. He was Children's Laureate from 2007 to 2009, and founded the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2008 as part of his laureateship to honour books that make children laugh!

So the past few years, a couple of children’s books have been particularly popular in our house: Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen with illustrations by Kevin Waldron, and I Really Want the Cake by Simon Philip with illustrations by Lucia Gaggiotti. It’s certainly something that many families reading will recognise too, and Kevin Waldron’s illustration of an absolutely yummy chocolate cake are also sure to get some tummies rumbling. And now, I’ve got the taste of it in my mouth, and I can’t stop myself, so I go, *imitates knife cutting* And I got all these slices, and TA-TA-TA. Soften the butter (in a warm place or with a quick nuke in a microwave), then sieve in the icing sugar and cocoa.
