About this deal

Derby has been making quality razors for several decades now so while it remains to be seen if it works with your beard, you can be sure it is of high quality. They have three manufacturing facilities totaling over 45,000 square feet! Of course, their razor production facility is just one of these but they mean serious business! Another factor is the razor you are using. Some guys get this blade because they have an aggressive razor and this blade offsets that. Astra and Feather blades are considered to be some of the sharpest and some reasons why you might want to go with those include: If you have a mild razor and you choose these mild blades, well then it may not be sharp enough and you might find yourself having to do a third pass to get a close shave.

Two of my full head shaves are about 4 face shaves, and if you shave every second day that’s a week for about 10 cents. I don’t see why you would want to push this blade any further. In the Derby English language catalog (link below) the only difference listed is the use of Swedish steel. Otherwise the copy for both is identical with the statement "Special double coating with chromium, ceramic, platinum & tungsten for optimum edge durability & comfort" implying that the manufacturing process may be the same. As mentioned by many this is not the sharpest razor but usually one of the smoothest giving you a comfortable shave. I did not like the inconsistency with the range of sharpness. Starting off not very sharp, then being great, and dropping right down again is less than ideal. That said, for the price I certainly plan to buy more and these will be a use once blade for me that I know I’ll get one great shave and no irritation. I recommend the Derby razor blades for one full head shave or 2-3 face shaves. Also a great blade when starting out.For my first shave I ignored advice to shave after showering since I never had in the past. I loaded my Gillette with a Derby Extra since I was told this was the best beginner blade. Soaked the brush while holding a warm washcloth to my face for a few minutes. Bowl lathered the soap which ended up being pretty thin due to my inexperience, brushed it on and got ready to do 1 WTG pass with an XTG pass on my cheeks.

These single edged razors are made specifically for such shaving utensils and each are individually wrapped in wax paper to maintain excellence and sharpness. A good blade can be the difference between a great shave and an awful one. Derby Extra Super Stainless Razor Blades are the blade of choice for men around the world. Derby was founded in 1940 as a wholesaler of luxurious ironmongery. In 1956, all of the activities the company conducted ceased, but the Razor factory continued to strive and in 1970, the factory of the Razor brand had incorporated. Unfortunately, in 1987, this factory had come to an end, but in 1987 the company expanded into producing disposable lighters. We explain below the best blade brands and varieties, highlighting their unique features and performance. These should help you make an informed choice for a smooth shave. In the world of safety razor blades, there is a wide range of brands and varieties to choose from, each offering its own unique characteristics and shaving experiences. Here are some well-known brands and blade varieties in the realm of safety razor blades: Feather: Highly regarded for their sharpness, Feather blades are favored by experienced shavers for achieving a close shave. Derby is very well known for their standard double edge blades that will fit any double edge safety razor. The Derby razor blades are stainless steel and they are coated with a chromium-ceramic, tungsten, and platinum. Derby uses the most advanced equipment to maintain quality as each blade is perforated, hardened, and ground.

The best razor blades sold in the UK, are the Derby 100 Derby Extra Shaving Blades in terms of quality and value for money. After the first shave, the sharpness increased to 44! This is significant and makes perfect sense. As I was finishing my third pass I actually felt like the blade was actually reasonably sharp. I have heard of people liking to get the first shave out of the way, “prime the blade”, etc. and maybe this is why.
