About this deal

Leading the new looks is the "Extravehicular," a 47mm "Big Bold" chronograph inspired by the white extravehicular mobility unit — EMU, or spacesuit — that was first worn in space by NASA astronauts Story Musgrave and Don Peterson in 1983. The two STS-6 spacewalkers inaugurated the use of the EMU, which is still in use at the International Space Station today.

The importance of the work of the Playtex seamstresses who helped put men on the moon, can not be under estimated. The NASA standards for safety had to be adhered to with unmatched precision. As Neil Armstrong said ‘The space suits were like mini spacecraft. If those suits failed, that was it. You were done.” Take Me to the Moon" derives its name from Frank Sinatra's recording of "Fly Me to the Moon," which was among the songs carried to the moon by the Apollo 11 first lunar landing crew in 1969. The New Gent model has a transparent case. The third "Big Bold" watch in the set is the "Jumpsuit" with a "NASA-blue" color theme. The model "echoes the everyday go-to blue jumpsuits," or flight suits, that astronauts wear when making public appearances, press conferences and when training on board T-38 supersonic jets.

THE SWATCH WARRANTY

Time is what you make of it, and at Swatch, the sky’s not the limit; dreams are. While the perceptions of NASA differ across generations, one thing remains the same – the space agency’s ability to capture the public’s imagination and desire to explore the stars and new horizons. The brand’s latest collection taps into this feeling, inspiring people to dream big, create their own universe and make the most of their time on earth. In 1965, Jean Shrimpton helped cement Astronaut chic in a series of photographs by Richard Avedon for a Harpers Bazaar issue on youth culture. In 2005 the image made the American Society of Magazine Editor’s list of Top 40 Magazine Covers. Gigi Hadid Space Age Fashion

In Nicholas de Monchaux’s book Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo, he reveals that Playtex, sensing a new market in the space race, began adapting its expertise with latex girdles and brassieres to research in pressurized space suits. Their research gained Playtex center stage at NASA in Apollo suit manufacture with their innovative advances in comfort and mobility. Subsequently, each space suit was hand-sewn and custom fitted to the bodies of each astronaut. Playtex seamstress working on space suits for Nasa. The Swiss watch brand is ready to launch its new Space Collection this week with hues taken from the garments worn by space shuttle crew members. Both the "Extravehicular" and "Launch" chronographs feature three sub-dials, evoking the appearance of the Omega Speedmaster that Apollo astronauts wore on the lunar surface (Omega and Swatch are both owned by the Swatch Group). The second hands on both models rest at the "10" mark, as a nod to the final 10-second countdown leading up to a launch. This iconic photograph, taken on the moon by Neil Armstrong of his lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin has style written all over it. Of course in reality, this space suit for EVA ( extra vehicular activity) on the lunar surface, was a life preserver. It protected the astronauts from deathly solar radiation as well as searing heat. But they also happened to look unbelievably chic and they were designed by Playtex !

BIG BOLD CHRONO EXTRAVEHICULAR looks to the iconic white spacesuit for inspiration. First worn in 1983 by NASA astronauts Story Musgrave and Donald Peterson, the white suits shield astronauts from the sun’s radiation. The similar-in-style Big Bold Chrono "Launch" borrows its bright orange color from the Advanced Crew Escape Suit, or ACES — the "pumpkin" suit that astronauts wore to launch and land on the space shuttle from 1988 through 2011. NASA has modified the ACES to be used on its next exploration missions as the Orion Crew Survival System (OCSS), to be worn on Artemis launches to the moon. The orange Advanced Crew Escape Suit, also known as the Pumpkin Suit, inspires the BIG BOLD CHRONO LAUNCH. The bright orange color of the watch mirrors the highly visible suits worn by astronauts for the ascent into space. Rounding up the Swatch Space Collection is TAKE ME TO THE MOON ‘NEW GENT’ with a transparent case, and SPACE RACE ‘GENT’ with a mirror-effect ilver-colored dial.
