About this deal

So far, I've only used the table saw, but wow, how much easier it has made tasks. No way could I easily and accurately have trimmed a centimetre off both sides of a large cupboard door without this, leaving a perfect edge. It is very well thought out; for example, you can leave the table saw in it when folder up, which saves even more space in my limited workshop. I'm giving the TRA001 five stars for the reasons above which add up to unbelievable value for money. But I must subtract a bit for the depth-stop Irritation so let's call it 95% but even so, if you want a big router you won't be disappointed. Somebody, somewhere, has actually thought about how to make this router useful and simple to use and, whoever you are, I take my hat off to you! Using the table in combination with an Triton router is a breeze. It's easy to adjust the table, attach dust extraction, and set the height of the router. I found no drift whatsoever when using it.

This is a very solid piece of kit. When assembled (which took very little time) I was amazed at how heavy it is and how stable. My only wish now, is that I'd bought the optional wheels, because this is very heavy to lug around, even with the modules removed. No lights on the router like others (DeWalt) so make sure you have plenty of good lighting. Big and beefy means increase the safety! I did have a problem with the plunging shaft. It broke on me. But, to be fair.. I use it a lot on, and off the table. Costumer service worked very hard to solve the issue. Offered to have it fixed by an authorized repair specialist. I am very mechanical so I repaired it myself after I received the free replacement part from triton. It's still under warranty, so they sent me the part with no problems. This is a high quality powerful router that fully lives up to it's reputation. I would recommend this tool to anyone seeking reliable router with power to spare. Still a really good concept, but not Festool quality, but then it is unfair to compair with a machine that cost 3 times as much. I also use a small Festool router so I can compair the quality feeling.I also love the plunge system: it makes life easy when doing off hand work, and when mounted in the router table. I installed my Triton in a table right out of the box so that is my only experience but it does the job exceptionally well. It is extremely powerful and handles large bits such as raised panel cutters with ease. The soft start feature is very handy with those large bits also. I use my Triton exclusively in a closed router table with my dust system so it has an external power switch which makes the covered on-off switch for bit changes a cumbersome process but one I have come to accept due the performance of the tool otherwise.

The only thing I don't like about the new router is the new collet design. To change the size of the router shank it is necessay to change the whole assembly instead of just the collet insert. I find this an unnecessary complication, especially when working on the table using a narrow throated insert. In this circumstance it is quite difficult to get the collet nut through the table enough to change it or to insert a new cutter. For me, the old system worked very well - so why was it necessay to change it? Further gains have also been made in the cut area. The TRA002 retains an impressive plunge depth of 68mm, allowing above-the-table bit and collet changes, but the TRA002’s 70mm maximum cutter diameter dwarfs the original TRA001’s 55mm capacity. Big, Beefy router capable of easily handling the toughest material. Ate through 1 3/4 inch mahogany like it was nothing. Thiis router replaces an earlier Triton router which has served me well for two decades. It carries on the tradition of powerful, versatile machines. I mainly use it in my Triton router table, for which it was designed and is ideally suited. Nothing daunts these routers they can cope with the heaviest work with easy. At the same time the height adjustment means that it is easy to get precise adjustments for accurate results.I am now in discussions to convince them to make a plate with a bigger hole so that raised panel doors can be made on this table but from the first answers I'm not very confident it will happen! Even taking into account the couple of minor criticisms I have about the router, overall, I am absolutely delighted with it and would recommend it especially for home made table mounting. It suits my needs perfectly. Initial setup and use are a bit confusing. They could have invested more time giving step by step instructions in the manual. I'm a visual person so an instructional YouTube video on initial setup, use, and maintenance would have been helpful. I would consider myself a woodworker of moderate skill and it took me a long time to figure out the features. Even now I don't know that I understand all its capabilities. In fact, I saw a store clerk move the router up and down smoothly pushing in the button while rotating the knob on he side. I had no idea it could do that! (Forehead slap) The range and availability of extras such as collets and guide bushes has been good with availability from other makes such as Trend also out there – always a good sign for a product.

Every now and again I buy something that I simply cannot find a fault with and this is one of those items. The ONLY downside that I can think of with this machine is the cost - it IS expensive. That said I cannot recommend it highly enough for more reasons than mentioned above.

I own most of the other routers on the market at this price point. For this review I will state what I like and dislike as compared to those other routers. The handle on the lifter will not clear a fence that is higher than about 4.5" so you can't lift the router in a continuous motion with a tall fence - you can do it with a bunch of half-turns. How about selling an extension rod or a longer one?

‘The BEST’ just got better: Triton’s new TRA is almost here

It saves me a lot of time, especially since I just have one router for off hand use and use with this table. Attaching and detaching the Triton router is simple and straightforward. Motor is surprisingly quiet relative to other routers of similar size/power (I have a Porter Cable 3 1/4hp router and it's loud!)
