About this deal

Not a lot of progress today, but in fact even more problems. Diamond Dremel cutters arrived this morning and managed to cut the bolt through the slot closest to the hex head, then spun it and broke the bolt at that point so was able to remove that end of the bolt (last 15-20mm). If you have set your sag correctly and are not using full travel, then you couldremove one or more spacers to decrease bottom out resistance. If the tire is hard enough and plump enough to carry the weight, the air will keep the tube from being pinched between the rim and the road hazard. The rebound adjustment is dependent on the air pressure setting. For example, higher air pressures require more rebound damping.

Next I proceeded by winding down the nut on the other end hoping it would start pulling out the rest of the bolt. But unfortunately it snapped off at the point where the shank joins the threaded section, so maybe 5mm inside! A “threadless” stem refers to a system where a fork with a non-threaded steerer tube extends through the head tube. A stem (A) then clamps around the outside of the steerer tube along with spacers (B) if necessary. Finally, a top cap (C) keeps everything in place and acts as a headset adjustment. Threadless Stem (A), Spacers (B), and Top Cap (C)

A parallelogram linkage with pivots at the four corners allows the angles to change as it flexes, but the facing sides always remain parallel to one another. This is a very useful mechanism for derailers, because it allows the derailer cage to move sideways while remaining parallel to the chain, and without the friction that would result from a sliding motion, as used on older plunger-type**** derailers. Some tandemists prefer a setup that is only slightly out of phase, typically with the pilot's chainwheel one or two teeth ahead of the stoker's. Planetary Gearing A planetary gear train consists of a stationary "sun" gear, surrounded by several (usually 3 or 4) identical "planet" gears which mesh with it. The planet gears, in turn, mesh with a hollow "gear ring" which has teeth on the inner surface. The gear ring rotates faster than the planet gears.

If at any point I've come across as being a bit shirty, I apologise. I just think that if you post something & it isn't quite correct then you have to be prepared to be called out on it. Believe me, I've been there myself so try not to guess at stuff. I wanted to reassure any 306 owners out there that in this case an 8.8 or stronger 1.5 pitch bolt meets OEM specification.... as long as the correct nut type is used. There's never been a recall for 306's to have the M10 x 1.5 swapped out for M10 x 1.25 & I've never heard of one failing on a 306. Worn, dirty or corroded cable and housing can drastically affect the performance of the braking system. Replace these components if necessary — see Brake Housing & Cable Installation for Upright Bars or Drop Bars. Mount FacingFinish by fully tightening the pinch bolt and each mounting bolt. Typical torque specs are about 6 Nm for the mounting bolts and 4 Nm for the pinch bolt. These features help improve shifting, and make rider skill less important in shifting, but none of these features is actually essential to the functioning of any system. Pliers have very limited use for bicycle work, and many bicycle parts are damaged by incompetents who try to use pliers for a job that really calls for a wrench. This commonly results in damage to the surfaces of the nuts or bolts so abused, as the serrated jaws slip around. Other brands have solved this problem different ways. Shimano used to use a spring in the shifter that opposed the derailer's spring. This avoided the slightly "granular" feel created by the ratchet.

Snug the caliper mounting bolts to hold the alignment of the caliper body over the rotor. Full tightening will occur after good pad alignment is confirmed. If pads appear parallel, but there is still rubbing, loosen the pad adjuster on the side with pad rub in 1/4-turn increments until it is gone. If installing a Steerer Mounted stem:tighten the steerer pinch bolts on the stem, according to the stem manufacturer's instructions. The correct M5 bolt (8mm spanner nuts) head I think slots in the groove, allowing the bolt to clamp move further in and clamp the cable. Many early '90s mountain bikes used a pulley at the bottom of the seat tube, to permit top-pull cable routing with bottom-pull front derailers. Since top-pull front derailers became readily available, this system has been obsolete. High-speed compression (HSC)adjustment is useful to control forkperformance during bigger hits, landings, and square-edged bumps. Contrary to popular belief, "pannier" is not a French word, and should not be pronounced as one. The normal English pronunciation is: "PAN-yer". http://www.passatworld.com/forums/61-b5-information-base/104287-replacement-suspension-fwd-passats.html
