About this deal

There is plenty of sweetness on the mouthfeel too that is very enduring and carries through to the lasting aftertaste. And gives a decent caffeine-kick if that's what you're after - although don't leave the bag in too long or you'll get the shakes. Also known as Huangshan Meofeng, it is a fine grade green tea grown in the Yellow Mountain region of the Anhui province for more than 300 years.

If you don't have a thermometer, simply bring the water to a boil and then let it sit for about 2 minutes to achieve the desired temperature. Huangshan Mao Feng tea's English translation is "Yellow Mountain Fur Peak" due to the small white hairs which cover the leaves and the shape of the processed leaves which resemble the peak of a mountain. The steaming process that follows the picking helps to retain the rich green hue and the delicate, natural aroma of the leaf, resulting in a brew that is as visually appealing as it is delicious.

Which is why, according to the legend, the area where Mao Feng tea grows is forever cloudy and humid the whole year round. If you need your culture by a certain date please contact us and let us know and we will do the best we can do accomodate. Mao Feng (毛峯) translates into English as ‘Fur Peak’, referring to the small white hairs that cover the young dry leaves. While this tea has been part of our assortment as a conventionally grown variety for a long time, we are now finally able to also offer an organic quality.

This Huang Shan Mao Feng green tea will be featured in our June 2020 Curious Tea Subscription Boxes. We’re proud that our Mao Feng achieved a 2 Star Great Taste Award in the 2021 awards – one of only a handful to do so. For centuries green teas have been revered across the Far East and are a rich, natural source of anti-oxidants. The curled dry leaves are small, only young leaves are used in this excellent tea, and are dark green with many downy light jade leaves and buds interspersed. If you love the unique flavour of mao feng leaves, you can also try these same leaves as Keemun Mao Feng, our aromatic black tea with a cocoa finish. Each leaf is carefully hand-picked in the early spring, often just as they are beginning to unfurl, ensuring the freshest, most vibrant tastes are captured at their peak. Boosts Metabolism: The tea has thermogenic properties, meaning it can help boost your metabolic rate and aid in weight management.

The dark green, twisted Sinensis leaf will surprise you in the cup with a fine scent and a colour, which reminds of fully ripe, bright lemons. As we are constantly reviewing and developing our products to meet our consumer needs, consumers, particularly those that suffer from allergies and intolerances, should always check product labelling, warnings, and directions provided with the product that is delivered, prior to use or consumption. We source this tea via our sourcing partner based in Huangshan City who deals with the farmers directly. Please ensure your address details and contact details are correct as once Royal mail has issued charges we cannot get them refunded. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use.The light green liquor has a grassy and nutty aroma with thick vegetal, juicy and sweet yet savoury flavours. Our tea temples: We use quality whole leaf only, not the dust found in regular tea bags; whole leaf is best. You may have heard about the many reputed benefits of drinking green tea, such as it supports metabolism, contains antioxidants and helps protect skin from UV and pollution induced damage - more fun than cosmetic surgery!

That being said, we recommend brewing at 80°c to get the most out of this excellent tea, but slightly higher and for longer brews will bring a stronger, more intense brew, still without bitterness. Traditionally hand processed to create dark green ‘fish hook’ leaves, this tea produces a complex liquor that has mineral, herbaceous and creamy notes of cooked vegetables. This highly sought-after tea is famous for its refreshing flavour and subtle grassy aroma, making it a top choice among tea enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes: Mao Feng Green Tea has a light and refreshing taste, with a delicate grassy flavour and sweet aftertaste. The use of only the youngest leaves and bud result in a brighter, sweeter green tea than many green teas with a nutty aroma and a smooth honeyed taste. The strikes are over but the service from Royal mail is still as shaky as ever but at the moment they are the best of a bad bunch. Caffeine Content: Contains a moderate amount of caffeine, ranging from 15-50mg per cup, depending on the brewing time. We go to great efforts to ensure that the information on this page is accurate at the time that the page was last edited.
