About this deal

My old country house has solid stone walls and boy do they feel cold inside. Not being able to have the cavity insulated -'cos there ain't no cavity - for years I've been seeking a solution to this.

A. Two main reasons, 1) It makes it much easier to achieve a nice neat finish with minimal filling and sanding 2) It helps protect your investment from damage creating a good base for paint or decorative wallpaper at the same time. Make sure you always apply the adhesive with a medium pile roller and use a brush for the corners, top and Bottom. The product works by creating a thermal barrier at the wall surface ensuring more heat is retained within the room for massively reduced warm up times and on-going energy savings - at the same time combatting the formation of condensation and the resultant unhealthy and unsightly mould growth. This product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes inside your home unless the surface is further treated with a fire retardant covering. Apply a good amount of adhesive working away from the corner to the wall enough to hang 1 strip at a time of thermal liner (apply approx.1m wide - KV600 1.3m Wide), This is so there is enough to cover the edges at both sides using a medium pile roller and a brush for the top, bottom and corners. It begins to work from the moment the heating is turned on and is especially effective on walls where the other side is exposed to the elements or an unheated room. Mark the wall away from the corner approx. 70cm (thermal Liner) 95cm (KV600) and draw a plumb line (straight) to start from. Cut lengths to size allowing some extra for trimming at the top and bottom this will make it easier when trying to apply directly to the wall.

I applied the System Adhesive to walls using a medium pile roller, using a brush around skirting and ceiling where the roller wouldn't “reach”, making sure there was plenty of adhesive on the wall where I used the brush – i.e. I didn't brush it out. If you do not intend to cover the product with fibreliner or similar then any small gaps at seams and corners can be filled and sanded prior to painting the surface directly with standard emulsion paint. Use a good quality, flexible non shrinking filler. With rising energy costs the vast majority of us are looking for ways to save money: KV600 offers a cost effective, practical way to save energy in your home as well as helping to create a cosier environment. It has been approved by the Energy Saving Trust because of its thermal efficiency and energy saving properties.

NB This is not a dedicated sound insulation product and the control of noise pollution is a complex subject so we cannot guarantee satisfactory results. For comprehensive information we recommend that advice from a specialist consultant is sought. To further increase the fire protection, we have devised a system to achieve a Class 1 rating - see the performance report here Thermal liner is basically a thin material that is used to help maintain heat in a room. It is made from wood fibres interwoven with durable textile fibres. This gives you is a very strong, flexible material that when attached to the walls is said to increase the energy efficiency of the room in question. Does Thermal Liner increase the energy efficiency of walls? Q. I remember those old polystyrene insulation tiles that were a real fire hazard, so I have worries in this regard about Thermal Liner?

You can however use a normal Stanley knife but make sure you have loads of spare blades as you will need them. Q. I like the product however I’m worried about how it will look around light switches and skirting boards for example. You do need as PigletJohn says to consider window reveals/eaves etc otherwise you end up with fat walls that don't work where there is a detail. Fire safety: is “normally” inflammable (according to the standard DIN 4102-1 “B2” classification, which corresponds to “E“ classification with DIN EN 13501-1) Therefore, by adding the R values above we arrive at a total R value for the wall with thermal liner, 0.476 + 0.0821 = 0.5581m 2 K/WRetro fitted cavity wall insulation doesn't have this and can in some cases act as a bridge for penetrating water to the inner leaf of the wall causing damp, the wet cavity can also lead to premature corrosion of wall ties. This is more likely on a Victorian cavity wall than a larger modern cavity wall. Lots of the companies that put the CWI in also don't have the best reputations. Surfaces painted prior to 1960 may contain lead pigments and special precautions should be taken when preparing such surfaces.
