About this deal

My advice for those who are just starting out mushroom foraging in the UK is to use these books in conjunction with one another as well as other identification tools. Whether you're an aspiring truffle hunter or a cultivation enthusiast, our collection covers every aspect of your journey.

Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive.Using a digital camera to photograph specimens or trying your hand at making paintings of them and building up your own catalogue of illustrations is highly recommended also.

It focuses on the information you need to collect fungi safely, including notes on the appearance, location and seasonality of different varieties. Edible Wild Mushrooms of North America by Alan Bessette and David Fischer is just what the title says – a detailed identification guide to the edible species. But it is pretty big; Collins isn't a good guide on its own, but with Phillips as a backup its useful. Healing Mushrooms is interesting and well written, making for an enjoyable read even if you have no previous knowledge on the topic. I prefer the old edition of Phillips, it has a very useful key for identification from spore print up.Mary Woehrel and William Light cover the basics but also delve into many uncommon, unusual, and rarely discussed mushrooms. By going on regular fungus walks, or perhaps joining a longer course over a weekend or a week you will gradually learn to recognise the commonest species which you will see on almost every walk and start to learn some of the more uncommon species also. Personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. Whether you're seeking a deeper connection with the wild or a hands-on experience in cultivation, our collection of resources provides a comprehensive guide.

Join a fungus foray organised by your local fungus group or wildlife trust, or, better still, attend a weekend course at a field centre. Welcome to our specialised collection of books focused on the captivating art of foraging and cultivating wild truffles in the UK! It is written by Gary Lincoff (also the author of The Complete Mushroom Hunter listed below), and the information is useful. He does, however, go over about Peter McCoy of Radical Mycology, another fantastic book I would suggest. That being said, this book is an absolute gem with tons of amazing information written in a style that is both informative and entertaining. The writing style is fun and light-hearted, with clear photographs accompanying each species, The book provides vital information on habitat, seasonality, taste, and cooking preparation. It is not one that you would sit down and read from cover to cover, but is an excellent resource to have on the bookshelf and flip through from time to time.
