About this deal

I loved how the lead detective thought everyone he interviewed was the killer. There is a lot of scrambling, a lot of lies, a lot of secrets, a lot of trying to protect others while protecting oneself. There are a lot of liars with their pants on fire in this book. Not all that glitters is gold. Sometimes those who look like they have it all don't have much in terms of common decency. ORT stages do span different colour bands at times. It isn't always the case that all stage 3 books are in the sam colour band, for example. Similarly, the Alberg Happy Families books span different colou bands despite being of the same ilk as one another. And their vindictive, extremely irritating auntie Audrey knows their secret, already pissed off to be excluded from half share of the wealth, smelling blood, coming after them. She thinks one of them killed her brother. Is she right? The next audio collection from Allan Ahlberg stars more of his best loved characters, including Master Salt the Sailor's Son, Ms Cliff the Climber and Mrs Plug the Plumber.

Mr Creep the Crook is a bad man, and all his family are bad too - even Growler his dog. But when he escapes from jail and heads to the seaside, he finds out that being bad is not such a good idea after all ...The "Happy Families" series is designed for use at home or at school. It is guided by the Education Adviser, Brian Thompson, and written by the award-winning author, Allan Ahlberg. 'The best thing to happen to beginner readers since Dr Seuss' "Children's Rights Workshop". I think this is the most profound and useful thing anyone has ever said on a "reading levels" thread! The family spans 3 generations and I loved the Grandfather, Ah Goong particularly, as well as Amy the main character. Amy has recently left her job in the big city of Cardiff and returned to help her family run their Chinese takeaway in a small town in Wales. Goods that by reason of their nature, cannot be returned - (Items such as underwear, where the 'hygiene patch' has been removed, or cosmetics where the seal has been broken). I really didn’t see the point in this book. Kept hoping it would get better but, for me, it didn’t.Master Money the Millionaire is a hilarious book by Allan Ahlberg and illustrated by Andre Amstutz. Master Money is a very rich little boy indeed. When he's only four years old, he finds buried treasure in his garden. When he's five, he finds buried treasure in the sandpit at school. And, at six, he finds buried treasure on the beach. But then Mister Creep the Crook finds him ... Look out for these Happy Families books, too!. If you’re the type to play detective, this will be the book for you! So many shady and unpredictable characters to choose from. Who could it be?? 🧐 Happy Families focuses on a family business and the secrets behind it. For me, it was a light easy read that was humorous and quirky. Going into Not a Happy Family, I will admit to being apprehensive. I've had a hit or miss relationship with Lapena, so had no clue how this one would be for me.From the very first chapter I was hooked into this story. Lapena wastes no time jumping into the nitty-gritty and it kept me guessing until the very end.

Mr Creep the Crook is a bad man, and all his family are bad too - even Growler, his dog. But when he escapes from jail and heads to the seaside, he finds out that being bad is not such a good idea after all. . . Happy Families is a delightfully charming story filled with lovable characters and was an absolute joy to read. Julie Ma’s writing has a very sincere feeling to it, unaffected and clean, making it very appealing and accessible to all. I was thoroughly entertained and I wish Julie Ma every success with Happy Families and her future writing. Where will she go next I wonder? With this being said, there were other players involved, so don't narrow your focus too much. You never know who could be out to get jerks like this.Maybe you have too much to drink. Maybe everybody has too much to drink. Comparisons between you and your siblings come up. Maybe even the dreaded political discussion and the next thing you know, you're throwing on your favorite wool peacoat and storming out into the night in a huff of thinly-veiled rage. Julie Ma has written a truly wonderful piece of fiction. There is a genuine humour running through this novel supported by a very natural style of writing. Authentic is the word that can best be used to describe this marvellous debut. It is a very warm and fulfilling story about the everyday dramas and secret pasts of an immigrant family living in Wales, who also happen to own a Chinese takeaway. What is there not to love about that? I listened to this one as an audiobook, and from the beginning, I just couldn't stop listening. It is divided into short sections, which made me compulsively keep listening as more clues were uncovered. I didn't really care about any of them, as they had no real depth or redeeming features to make them come alive.

This was an extremely unique narrative tone for me. The story is told from a distant third person perspective, yet I felt fully connected and engrossed within this twisty and suspenseful tale. I loved the short chapters of this family drama that always left me on edge wanting to read “just one more”. My suspicions flew all over the place, suspecting every single character at one point or another. This audio collection features 11 classic tales brought to life with original music and dazzling sound effects, all read in Alexander Armstrong's unique style. This was just great entertainment. It’s a book I wanted to find as many hours a day as possible to listen to. I tore through it. I had no clue who committed the murders. Such a great ending! Just like the secret of why her grandfather, Ah Goong, and her father, TC Li, haven't spoken to each other in thirty years. Weirder still, they've lived in the same small flat about the takeaway for the majority of those years, with Amy's mother Joan acting as their unfortunate go-between and buffer. Joan married TC Li but his relationship with Ah Goong is brittle. The two men haven’t communicated for years, for reasons never explained to Amy and her brother. It just became an accepted part of their lives. But now all is to be upended for Amy when Ah Goong collapses in the street. The police have plenty of suspects, but few clues. This isn’t a new premise, but I loved how this story unraveled, including a few surprising twists and a surprise ending. I think this would make a terrific movie!
