About this deal
Children are challenged to ‘Deepen the Moment’ which requires them to independently draw upon previously learnt skills and apply them to their writing during that chunk. Editing flaps are extra pieces of paper that stick onto their writing and show the additional sentences added into their work.

The Writing Rainbow is the essential teaching and learning resource for all schools that teach writing using Jane Considine’s systems. This allows them to become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. We use Letter-join as the basis of our handwriting policy that covers all the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. By using these lenses, pupils will become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. Children are immersed in a key text, revealing plot points one at a time through the 'slow reveal'to maintain the excitement of revealing the story.
The Training Space
Experience days immerse children in experiences linked to their writing and drench them in vocabulary linked to the lenses in ‘The Writing Rainbow’. Pupils who are familiar with this poster find that it reminds them of the wealth of ways they can showcase flair and structures independently during their ‘Deepen the Moment’ aspects of writing. At Whitehouse Primary School we are very proud of our pupil’s handwriting and take particular care in our cursive/joined-up handwriting style. Children learn to sentence stack, focusing on the style of the author and impact of words and sentences. Following the sentence stacking, children are given the opportunity to show what they have learnt by planning and writing their own independent piece of writing.
