I only tried a little of this but it definitely worked and with more time and effort you could get some great results. Stiff Brush: Very light shades can be obtained by dabbing a very small quantity of rust paint onto a surface using a stiff brush. So first off I’ve used a variety of acrylic and non-acrylic rust solutions in the past, and despite having only had one play with Dirty Down Rust I am super impressed.Grab your bottle of Dirty Down Rust and use an old paintbrush to stir the pot and get the sediment out from the bottom.

I found the best way to do this was direct application and then use a brush loaded with water to wash it around. Finally it’s time to take away some of the Dirty Down Rust to reveal the steel underneath and to give your model some depth. The water however seems to be where the magic is starting to happen, with the lighter shades beginning to show through. For a broken, patchy effect apply to small areas/patches at a time and allow to dry – more in some areas, less in others. I was actively trying not to think about what I was doing, as I figured that the more I tried to ‘do it right’ the less likely I was to get a natural result.
