PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a fluorocarbon solid, it is hydrophobic meaning it cannot get wet! The best known application of PTFE is the brand name of Teflon by Du Point! I kept the same insoles, with the attached Engo Blister Patches, and continue to wear them the rest of the Camino. I began daily training day hikes again in March, using the same insoles with the same Patches, until just a few days ago.
I have described the test conditions which I used for the Engo Blister Patches. Others will experience differences in the products longevity due to their own unique usage patterns. Factors, such as the overall weight of the person, will affect the lifespan of the product. But overall, the cost of the Engo Blister Patches is not out-of-line when compared to some other commonly used consumable anti-blister products . . .many of which do not work well unless very frequently applied to the feet, if even then.

The insoles I used were the Timberland Pro Men's Anti-Fatigue Technology Replacement Insole. I would expect that any shoe or insole combination would have produced similar results.
If your patch does loosened significantly or come off entirely (let’s say your shoe gets waterlogged or you put your insole through a washing machine cycle or you couldn’t remove all the Vaseline from your shoe before you applied the patch), you can glue your patch into place. The manufacturers recommend a glue called Shoe Goo. Repeat as needed: if you have multiple areas that require strategic friction reduction, simply repeat the process with additional templates and shearban sheets. But the thing is, they’re really durable. They’re not going to wear through for at least 300 miles, or roughly 500kms. Colin got some ENGO heel patches and was concerned they seemed to be coming off. He sent me two photos, which is always REALLY helpful!A full ENGO Rectangle Patch on the shoe surface is going to be far too big and a bit of a waste. The off-cut that you just trimmed is probably going to be too small. So, you could cut another Rectangle in half, and use that, absolutely. However, I prefer to use large ovals instead. You’ll need two of them to span the dimensions of the Rectangle Patch. And you’ll need to overlap them, which is completely fine to do. Put the furthest one on first, followed by the closer one. That’s the way I do it and it works well. Why the Large Oval ENGO Patches? Well, it’s just a fact that, the smaller the patch and the more rounded the corners, the easier it is to apply without creases, to bendy contoured areas of your shoe like this. Access I began noticing a pattern to the squeaking which started occurring and started using it as a marker for when to reapply the 2Toms to the Engo Blister Patches. I made the connection - - which resulted in much laughter - - that when the ‘squeaking’ decreased in frequency, it was time to reapply 2Toms to the Patches. For me, an application would last for several days. There’s a significant advantage to this, and that is, they won’t change the way your shoe fits. This is important, especially in endurance activities where your feet swell. It’s also important if your shoes are tight already in certain areas – like if you’ve got a bunion. You simply can’t afford to add more bulk into your shoe in this area without making things worse. Blister pads, cushions and protectors all take up room in your shoe and can change shoe-fit. To maximise adhesion, immediately wear shoes for 30 minutes to provide additional pressure and warmth to the adhesive.
