Caran d’Ache added 24 colours to their lightfast range of 76 coloured pencils. It is therefore a range of 100 lightfast coloured pencils. The chart above show the Luminance range has a total of 100 pencils, of which 18 are neutral colours, and 82 are colours that belong to colour wheel colour families. Compared to the previous range of 76, this is an increase of 3 neutral colours, and 21 colours that belong to the colour wheel colour families. Although the Luminance pencils may not keep their point as long to create very fine lines, like the harder oil-based brands like the Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, keeping them sharp whilst using certain techniques will help you achieve the fine detail regardless.
