However, overall treble performance here still rates as very good and tonally inoffensive (no peakiness) with just a couple of tuning quibbles that hold it back. The main box slides out of an outer sleeve that features Rinko the waifu, with some extra technical information in the back. Bass-baritones seem to have a dark and dense tone but I noticed that its a bit hollow with less depth on it. Of course, every one of us has slightly different ears and hearing abilities, but in general, the Harman Curve is supposed to sound universally pleasing.All I'm trying to say is that, despite appearing to be tuned differently, the V-shape signature still sounds the same. This unfortunately makes the mids and vocals seem to drown in the mix and everything seems very midbass focused.

The Yume sound smoother and relaxed, and some may find the KXXS to be a bit aggressive and sharp at times. I've tried EQ-ing the SeeAudio Yume to fit Yume:Midnight frequency response, and yeah raising up the upper treble through EQ fixes the average soundstage of Yume. Still in the context of this IEMs neutral Harman tuning I can’t fault the bass too much, and it doesn’t have any overt flaws either. However, the relative maturity of it’s overall package, being tonally inoffensive and an incredible reference in the midrange still make it a compelling package.

The main feature of these Rinko's is a well-crafted V-signature with a special emphasis on the bass. SeeAudio if you’re reading this retune for a little more midbass and the bass will be better for it IMHO. This directly hits separation and layering, as well as treble air because the mix can get crowded and suffocating in the busiest of tracks. I think this is where the bass tax is audible the most because on most tracks the vocals get somewhat drowned in the mix - not absurdly so, but enough for me to feel like something's missing.

And especially something that I can't put my finger on but it's like you can hear each individual driver firing off in sequence, it's a weird feeling, but imagine the sound literally expanding from a very tight center gradually to outside your head, checking each individual spot on the way (the best I can do here is share the moment that wowed me, from the Finale from Sunday in the Park with George, 1:34 - 1:54, it's like a letter V starts at the center of your head and expands in every direction and becomes absolutely huge outside your head, almost as if along the way separate parts of the IEM are turning on when needed. The midrange presentation is undoubtedly recessed and tad leaner but still delivers a clean and expressive response on female vocals and instruments like strings and woodwinds.
