About this deal

Yes, Wales does NOT have its own currency. They use pound sterling, just like the rest of the UK. Do they drive on the left or the right? South Wales is a beautiful collaboration of coastal and city living, comprising of the capital of Wales, Cardiff, the city of Swansea, and the stunning Gower Peninsula as well as the southern area of the Brecon Beacons which extend into the region. The cities in this region mean that you are able to explore the rich history of the area, as well as the shopping and night life or explore the slower pace of locations such as Cardiff Bay. Further south, the Gower Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a haven for wildlife. It is also home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK, Rhosilli Bay, which is often referred to as one of Europe’s best beaches. During your holiday in South Wales, also visit Mumbles and the Wye Valley (below). If you have time before you start your Brecon Beacons National Park road trip, be sure to visit the capital city of Cardiff, Castell Coch, Cardiff Castle and nearby Barry Island. The road runs from Brynamman to Llangadog (I swear I’m not making these names up!) This is another incredibly scenic road- and most of it is 2-way you’ll be pleased to know. We did it on a motorbike- it was spectacular. What else is there to do on a Brecon Beacons road trip? An interactive map shows every part of Wales that will be subject to the Welsh Government's new 20mph speed limit law.

Education in Wales is different from the rest of the United Kingdom due to the use and study of the local Welsh language. Welsh medium education is available to all age groups in the country, from nurseries to schools, colleges, and universities. Definitely put in a stop at the small town of Rhossili, where you can rent a surfboard at PJ’s Surfshop and also enjoy delicious fish and chips at the ‘The King’s Head’ pub. Over the last 8 weeks, we have seen an incredible effort, from all parts of our society, to respond to the unprecedented challenge to our way of life posed by the COVID-19 virus. The new legislation is not a blanket speed limit on all roads, it simply changes the default speed limit on restricted roads from 30mph to 20mph. Highway authorities, who know their area best, engaged with their local communities to decide which roads should remain at 30mph. Exceptions to 20mph default speed limits One of the reasons we love Wales so much is all the outdoor activities it offers. For that reason, we recommend visiting Wales anytime between Easter and mid-October, to really take advantage of the highlights. The Gower peninsula is a perfect stop on a Wales Road Trip. It’s a small peninsula on the south coast, just west of Swansea. Did you know, it was the first region in Great Britain to be recognised as an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. Why should I include Gower in a Welsh Road Trip itinerary? Formal education begins after the 5th birthday, and is compulsory until the age of 16. Further Education is full or part time learning for those who are beyond the age of compulsory education; while Adult Community Learning is offered for academic or vocation learning; and higher education available for ages 18 and up, with all undergraduate education largely state-financed. Trivia As with most countries, there are plenty of routes to head north through Wales from south to North. You could choose the Cambrian Way however, in this instance we highly recommend the coastal route around the west coast of Wales. I love touring and exploring Wales. It’s one of my favourite places to road trip in the UK and every time I visit I find something new to enjoy, whether it’s a coastal walk, cute independent shops, medieval castles or the never-ending natural beauty. No- there’s a suspension bridge (the Menai bridge – although sometimes called the Telford Bridge by locals), and it’s free to cross. Cars and motorhomes can get across no problem- just follow the road signs. When is the best time to plan a road trip to Anglesey?

The coastal town of Aberystwyth- an ancient market town and home of the National Library of Wales. If you have time, detour inland and visit the visitor centre of Elan Valley. A government report has said reducing the speed limit on Welsh roads to 20mph will have minimal impact on journey times, though the Welsh Government's own analysis has said there could be an impact on the economy. You can also drive another of the best driving roads in Wales- the A4069 (to the west of the Brecon Beacons.) This road was made famous by Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear (no, this is NOT the same road as the Gospel Pass!) The country occupies an area of 20,779 km², it's about the size of Slovenia, or slightly smaller than the U.S. state of New Jersey. An exceptions process and criteria was developed to guide highway authorities on deciding on which sections of roads should be exceptions to the 20mph speed limits and remain at 30mph.
