Alfie, we shall meet again…” No, we won’t! thought Alfie. “Oh yes we will…” she whispered. It was as if the dentist could hear his thoughts…David has proved himself as a dramatic actor in BBC2's 'Capturing Mary' with Dame Maggie Smith, in BBC1's Agatha Christie series 'Partners In Crime', as Frankie Howerd in the biopic ‘Rather You Than Me’ for BBC4, and on the stage in Harold Pinter’s 'No Man’s Land' starring alongside Sir Michael Gambon. He received the Comedy Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance as Bottom in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ directed by Michael Grandage. From 2012 to 2022, Walliams was a judge on the ITV1 talent show Britain's Got Talent with Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Simon Cowell. Before ill health forced him out of work, Dad was a coal miner. A great big bear of a man, he had loved working down the pit and providing for his beloved son. However, all those years he spent down the mine took a terrible toll on his lungs. Dad was a proud man, and didn’t let on about his illness for many years. He worked harder and harder to dig more and more coal, even taking on extra shifts to help make ends meet. Meanwhile his breathing became shallower and shallower, until one afternoon he collapsed at the coalface. When Dad finally came round at the hospital the doctors told him he could never go down a mine again. Just one more lungful of coal dust could finish him off for good. As the years passed Dad’s breathing worsened. Getting another job became impossible, and even everyday tasks, something as simple as tying a shoelace, grew to be a struggle. Soon Dad could only get around in a wheelchair. With no mum or brothers or sisters, Alfie had to care for his father alone. Besides having to go to school and do his homework, the boy would do all the shopping, all the cleaning, cook all the meals, and do all the washing up. Alfie never complained though. He loved his dad with all his heart. Dad’s body may have been broken, but his spirit wasn’t. He had a great gift What an amazing show! It's such a thrill to see my story brought to life in such a brilliant way. I love it! ” David Walliams Davis, Clive. David Walliams Press Reviews

David Walliams marries Dutch model Lara Stone". BBC News Online. London. 17 May 2010 . Retrieved 16 May 2010. On 28 October 2010 Walliams published his third book Billionaire Boy, illustrated by Tony Ross, [99] [100] telling the story of Joe Spud, the richest 12-year-old in the country. Joe's father is a famous inventor, and his wealth means that Joe has everything he could ever want: his own bowling alley, cinema and a trained orangutan who serves as his butler, but there is just one thing he really needs: a friend. [99] The book included a 'billion pound note' that was used to enter a competition to win a day as a billionaire in London. [ citation needed] This was the first of his books to be illustrated by Tony Ross. The story is fantastical, sentimental, hilarious & written with a keen eye for detail. Walliams has indeed proven himself to be the true offspring of Roald Dahl’s style as is shown in his witty & humorous books for children. I sometimes feel that I prefer the Walliams books to the Dahl ones as they are so inclusive. I adored the characters, especially good old Raj; I cannot get enough of Raj in this novel, he is simply amazing! Another character who stole my heart in this book was Mr. Snood the dramatics instructor. I myself always tend to overdo things & therefore sometimes, I too must be appearing to be very much like Mr. Snood with his compulsive ‘impro’ commands. a b Mirror.co.uk (28 February 2009). Demon Dentist – HarperCollins Publishers UK

The dentist is a common phobia amongst children, and the more sensitive might find some of the more nightmarish scenes difficult to take, most notably when Alfie gets all his teeth removed without anaesthetic, his arms and legs held in place with metal cuffs. Yet whilst this book is unlikely to dispel any dentist fears, there's enough humour in the mix to prevent it becoming too terrifying for the majority of young readers. Retrieved 5 December 2022.With poor young Alfie still lying in terror on the dentist’s chair, Mr Erstwhile stepped into his waiting room to request reinforcements. The growing crowd of patients waiting to be seen were all called upon to assist. Young and old, fat and thin, the elderly dentist needed all the help he could get. Nevertheless, even with a lengthy human chain and an army of yankers*, the tooth stayed well and truly put. *Made-up word ALERT By this time poor little Alfie was in great distress. The pain of having his tooth pulled out was a hundred times worse than the toothache. However, Mr Erstwhile was determined to finish what he had started. Sweating profusely, the thirsty dentist took a large swig of mouthwash, and gripped on to the forceps as tightly as he could. Channel Four criticised over David Walliams's 'disgusting' joke". Este livro está cheio de ilustrações, o que faz com que se leia de uma assentada e o faça ideal para meninos da idade de Alfie e Gabz (a amiga (namorada??) deste).
