I have no experience with the Pentax, but I frequently use my Russian 20x60 Kronos binos to look at aircraft. The large 60mm objective lenses are housed inside a rugged, rubber armoured body and also come with the newly developed coatings to maximise light transmission and ensure a bright, clear viewing experience. To get wide fields of view easily you need an 80 mm F/5 or 100 mm F/5 refractor with a 2 inch eyepiece capability preferably, although the 1 1/4 inch can still give wide views. There are quite a few posts on cloudynights regarding the Pentax 20x60 it might be worth scouring them to see whether this is going to be an issue.
Two months before I found my Zeiss 15x60s, I broke down and bought a pair of Pentax SP20x60WP binos just to see what the fuss was all about. Well, foot on earth, and before my head gets boiled -and probably yours a little bit- i think im gonna take a small terrestrial scope finally. As well as Steve Tonkin's review you will find some good and interesting comments over at cloudy nights.edit: i realize there's not too many 20x60 binos in the market, lets include those huge and heavy 20x80 models. Anything that isn’t as you would expect, we then make a note of and show this in the condition notes on the page.
Its large sized objectives add weight and bias the center of gravity forward making user fatigue a concern and hand-shake a possibility, so to aid long observation sessions the binocular can be mounted on a tripod using an optional adapter. The Visionary Classic range of binoculars provide excellent value for money without compromising image or build quality. I can spend 200 euros on it if they worth, but i see a few brands wich cost 100-120 euros, and maybe for 20 mags it dont need so much "technology" features and they are ok.
I have seen that some have used a red dot finder to find astronomy targets, but to my surprise I find that I can locate objects quite well without. This model has a larger front lens than the other sizes in the Classic range, this is to improve the light gathering and still produce a good quality image with such high magnification. From various posts I've read on cloudynights concerning the Pentax 20x60 I think its something you get or you can't be bothered with which tends to polarise opinion. No astro instruments is perfect for all obeservings but to has a 60 mm quality bino is well invested money. These may have significantly wider field than the Pentax (~3+ degrees), but also much shorter eye relief.
