About this deal

Reading books about bullying not only broadens our perspective about why bullying happens, but it can also help us find comrades and tools on how to deal with the issue. Whether you are the bullied, bully, or bystander, these books can help you process your own role and best practices for how to respond. You’re not going anywhere. You leave in two days, and we’re having fun. No matter what.” Her threatening voice shook my already unsteady nerves. People, some classmates and some not, bounced to the music, laughing and living it up. The hair on my arms stood on end at the sight of all the bustle and enthusiasm. The floors echoed the beat coming from the speakers, and I was speechless at the sight of so much activity in one space. People danced, horse-played, jumped, drank, and played football…yes, football, in the living room. Everything about him was just so contradictory. He blared music late at night so she couldn't sleep but covered for her at school when she was in trouble. He made sure none of the guys at school ever touched yet and yet clearly didn't want her for himself. I kept trying to figure him out. Maybe it was his messed up way of trying to protect her? Maybe he didn't feel good enough for her and was trying, in the only way he knew how, to look out for her? Deborah: …it’s like Bully met fiftyshadish….it’s my top favorite for this year….and it a little on the dark side…..I actually liked it better than Bully and I looooooved Bully…… I did like Fear me better than Bully but it’s quite different very dark (dubious consent) if you can handle things like that………let’s just say Fear me makes Bully look like sesame street 😉

Lisa eventually proposes that the group murder Bobby. Ali recruits her new boyfriend, the pot-smoking and acid-dropping Donny Semenec, and a troubled friend, Heather Swallers, who has recently been released from rehab; Lisa recruits her cousin, the shy and nerdy Derek Dzvirko. They initially plan to kill Bobby with a gun stolen from Lisa's mother. Ali and Lisa lure Bobby to the Everglades, the plan being that Lisa will shoot him while he has sex with Ali, but Lisa finds herself unable to do it. Realizing they need help, the group hire a supposed "hitman", Derek Kaufman, a friend of Ali's who is in actuality a tough-talking young man several years older than them. Overall, I was very disappointed with the narrative here and I couldn't get behind the relationship or the insinuations made on the subject matter here. It's drama for the sake of drama, with characters that I'm supposed to believe fall in love, but it didn't progress with any kind of realistic terms for me to believe in it. This book also had a lot of deeper issues going on as well. When someone is bullied, how far do they get pushed before they retaliate? And, by doing so, are they not themselves just perpetuating the cycle by becoming a bully themselves? Or is it self-defense? Is it justified? Understandable? Necessary? Completely wrong? Where were the lines drawn? When it comes to bullying (and so many other things), intent isn’t as important as impact. In The Name Jar by Yangsook Choi,Unhei, the new girl from Korea, is keen for the other children in her American school to like her – so, when they can’t pronounce her name, she agrees to ‘try on’ some different, American-sounding names. This beautifully-illustrated picture book is a fantastic way of showing young children how seemingly innocuous things can actually be hurtful, and how it’s great to learn new things about new people. Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson School can be scary even without bullies in the mix – if a young reader in your life is nervous about the new school year, have a look at 12 More Picture Books to Ease Those First Day of School Jitters. Robyn: I’m just finishing up Untouchable by Sam Mariano. It’s a great bully book. It has kept me on my toes as to what the H will do next. He’s naughty and I mean naughty, but he also has a nice side if you can just get on it.

"FILM; Larry Clark, Moralist, In the Florida Suburbs". The New York Times . Retrieved April 28, 2023. There’s power in knowing you’re not alone through shared experiences. In this book, some of the top authors for young people share their own stories of bullying, whether they were the victims, the bullies, or the bystanders. This book will make you see where bullies come from and show you how a perfectly sweet and loving person can be shaped into a tormentor. I’m reading Blood and Roses and Zeth is quite bullyish. Not sure though if that will change. Great read so far!!!!”But the real question that I kept asking myself was... why? As a general rule, behavior like his is a result of some sort of extreme hurt but for the life of her, Tate couldn't figure out what she did to wrong him and she was hurting deeply both for their lost friendship and for the pain he was causing in her life. Reading books about bullies and bullying is one proven way of helping a victim move on with life. First, we can feel validated reading about other people’s experiences. Second, it can also give us ideas for how to deal with the bullies or get around the issue.
