The problem is that she has to go through the Culling and have the love of the Primal who Ascends her, which could be Nyktos, except he had his kardia removed and is incapable of loving someone. He then speaks up louder to let his voice carry in the chamber, and tells everyone that Seraphena has not taken any oaths, sworn her loyalties or even wear the crown of the Consort, but she risked her life to protect everyone in the Shadowlands, by planning to turn herself over to Kolis.She is still self-sacrificing, and it broke my heart to see how she felt like she had to sacrifice herself to help others or she would have no more purpose in life.

Sera and Saion talk and he asks her about her attempt to escape to kill Kolis, but she doesn’t reveal more than asking him if Nyktos would make something like that up. I, too, struggle with the idea of having to wait until the next book comes out and I want to read all of them in one go so it’s a debate of waiting vs reading, but ultimately I want to read the next one in the series as they come out. Sera responds that she had to, which in turn angers him and causes him to transform into his true Primal form. The side characters always manage to provide the comic relief needed and it's always such joy to have our baby drakens around. Jennifer gives Poppy, Casteel, Seraphena and Nyktos so much depth with their emotions, their lived stories and especially with their trauma–but she also brings a lot of wisdom within these pages.Overall, I enjoyed this book because of Nektas, Sera, and Nyktos, but I am still a little pissed that I had to read over 600 pages to get to that cliffhanger and I still feel that nothing really happened. This is because Nektas is very old; he was the first draken–the dragon that Eythos befriended and turned into part human.
