About this deal

Most notable in this regard is the growth of gangs in Luton over the past few decades and the violence they have brought with them. The brutal murder of Mark Sharp in 1995 seemed to make a particularly deep impression on the community, and on Robinson himself. ‘The truth is’, he writes, ‘that by the time the conflict became focused on religion and nationalism, there had been trouble brewing in Luton for many years. That was more about gang territory and activity than any disputes over faith.’ Image Credit: Tommy Robinson, 5th May 2012 ( Youtube) Walker, Peter (27 November 2018). Warning: Do not read this book if you want to believe that Great Britain is still a country with a fully independent judiciary, subject to the rule of law, intent on upholding freedom of expression. A journey into discovering who Tommy Robinson is will not be a comfortable one. In polite society the only choice is to declare him as absolutely evil if you want an easy life and some career prospects. Even just to defend his right to speak, not be physically assaulted, or to listen to his words at face value could land you in all sorts of trouble. The court analysed the differences that arise from a prison sentence for a criminal offence and those from committal to prison for contempt. Of the mistakes made at Canterbury, the Court of Appeal learnt that those representing Robinson had been aware of the procedural errors. "It lies ill in the mouth of an appellant to complain of the failure of the court below to follow the appropriate procedural steps when that failure was fully appreciated at the time and remained deliberately uncorrected for tactical reasons and collateral advantage." [139] :54 In respect of the Leeds contempt the court stated, "We are satisfied that the decision at Leeds Crown Court to proceed to committal to prison so promptly and without due regard for Part 48 of the Rules gave rise to unfairness. There was no clarity about what parts of the video were relied upon as amounting to contempt, what parts the appellant accepted through his counsel amounted to contempt and for what conduct he was sentenced." Robinson's identity as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon was unmasked by Searchlight magazine in July 2010. Yaxley-Lennon's prior criminal history was thereby connected with Robinson. [3] [4]

The book is a fascinating read, entertaining from start to finish, though ultimately depressing as there seems little indication that the politicians will wake up to the unprecedented threat to 2,500 years of Western civilisation. Nor is there much sign that the British people have a clear grasp of the dangers we face.
