About this deal

In Pinborough’s ( Behind Her Eyes, 2018, etc.) twisty, decade-spanning, multivoiced thriller, everyone has secrets: teenager Ava; her mom, Lisa; and Lisa’s best friend, Marilyn.

This psychological thriller is full of twists and turns that will turn everything on its head and make you rethink everything you thought you knew. This is a suspenseful, gripping and enjoyable thriller that I would totally recommend. This was just a fantastic, fast paced, wonderful book. I most definitely will be looking at the rest of the series as well as anything else this author has written. If you love a good, suspenseful mystery, then this book is for you. OMG the twists and turns in this rare gem of a read made for one hell of a roller-coaster ride! The story centres around Lisa; a seemingly ordinary, loving, single mum whose priority is that of her only child. We learn early on that Lisa is haunted by the death of a young boy but just how she is connected to him isn’t revealed until about a quarter of the way into the book. Finally, this book should come with a trigger warning: there are themes and scenes involving sexual and domestic abuse, child abuse and murder. It encompasses a world of pills, alcohol and many other harrowing themes. The cover art truly reflects the way that Lisa’s heart must feel everyday based on her past. He reads the letter three times before it sinks in. She’s gone. They’re gone. He knows it’s true—he can feel the fresh emptiness in the house—but still he rushes through the rooms, pulling open hollow cupboards and drawers. There is no trace of her, however; no passport or driving license, none of these important things that frame her life.

The Bree Taggert Series in Order (8 Books)

This story is told by three people; Lisa, her teenage daughter Ava and Lisa's best friend and work colleague Marilyn, someone has something to hide but which of them is it and how will it affect their lives if that secret is revealed? Lisa is a mum on the edge desperate to keep her daughter safe as strange things start happening, a rabbit toy, a song and photos going missing though she has normal worries like does Simon a friend she likes fancy her and is her daughter happy with her boyfriend. He grips the edge of the paper so tightly the neat lines of carefully written words twist into odd zigzags that crunch some sentences but highlight others, taunting him. Homicide Detective Bree Taggert was worried when she received a strange message from her younger sister, Erin. When Erin didn't respond to her calls, Bree decided to return to her hometown to see her sister. But when she arrives, Bree learns that Erin has been murdered. Erin's estranged husband, Justin, is at the top of the police's suspect list. He is also missing. Justin's old friend, former Sheriff's Investigator Matt Flynn, does not believe that Justin could kill anyone. He wants to find Justin and clear his name. Matt teams with Bree to find her sister's killer.

Erin second encounter with death comes at the hands of her husband Justin. Erin recently had separated from Justin because he suffered a relapse into his oxy addiction and has two children she didn't want to expose to Justin's addiction. This romantic suspense tale thrusts readers into the action, with one heart-racing, adrenaline-filled scene after another. Leigh’s (Morgan Dane series) vulnerable yet strong lead characters add depth to an exciting new series.” — Library Journal Ava, meanwhile, considers her mum basically a bit of a loser. Ava just wants to hang out with her friends... and develop a new friendship she’s made online.Justin's best friend, Matt Flynn, was once a sheriff's investigator. An on-the-job shooting left him unable to continue and is now a K-9 handler. My favourite character was probably Marilyn. She has a lot going on with herself when Lisa’s world caves in, and yet she manages to step up and carry on with life. She is a very strong woman who makes some excellent decisions, which makes this an excellent book for women in unhappy marriages to read. They will either recognise themselves and their own situations, or they will see that their lives are really not too bad after all. The strongest, most unsettling thriller of the year, with a final twist destined to provoke arguments for years to come. Read it now before someone spoils the ending for you.”— John Connolly, #1 New York Timesbestselling author of the Charlie Parker novels Erin has been killed, and the chief deputy explains that their main suspect is her estranged husband, Justin, who is currently missing. Erin’s body was found by Justin’s friend, Matt Flynn, a former sheriff’s investigator and K-9 handler, who was at the house to collect Justin to take him to his Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Drugs were the cause of Justin and Erin’s split; he became addicted to pain meds following a car accident, and she didn’t want him around her kids while he was using. But they were still seeing each other and intended to work things out, and Justin has been trying, with Matt’s help and support, to get clean. Bree and Mike definitely have something together, but I enjoyed that its still a tiny flame at this point. They are in the middle of an emotional case and grieving. They didn't trust each other's motives at first or methods. The author wisely didn't try to force the attraction, but will let it unwind over the course of the series.

Dark, unflinching and disturbing… Heart-breaking in places, twisty as hell. I’d like to claim that I guessed the ending but Sarah stayed one step ahead of me all the way through. Pacy, unnerving, addictive read with a dark, dark heart. C. L. Taylor Cross Her Heart is the new psychological thriller by best selling author of Behind Her Eyes, Sarah Pinborough. It’s due for release in May 2018 and let me just start by saying that it completely delivers. The characters were interesting too. I felt worried at the start because the two adult characters, Marilyn and Lisa weren't the sort of characters I tend to like reading about, but as they got caught up in the events of the book and all the secrets hidden in their lives started to come out, I was hooked. I give it five stars because it’s original, disturbing, harrowing, twisty and complex. Don’t miss it!

Even though parts of this book were hard to read, I enjoyed it overall. I love a good mystery and I love a book that pulls out the carpet of what you think you know from underneath you. This is definitely my definition of a perfect thriller. This is a fast paced thriller with an intricate plot, but all the clues are there for people who like to try and guess ahead - it’s not one of those dreadful books where the baddie is only introduced about 80% of the way though. As with Behind Her Eyes, I thought I was guessing right but I was proved wrong again and again! Bree is a tough Philly homicide detective and arrives in her hometown after a cryptic, scared voice message from her sister, Erin, brings her running. Their family's dark past of her parents' murder-suicide and domestic abuse affected them all differently and caused Bree to be reared away from her siblings. They were all slightly distant from each other, but kept in touch. Now she has a grieving teenage nephew and young niece who need her and the potential for their father, her sister's big past mistake to show up and claim them. She is determined to find their mother's killer and is slowly grasping how Erin's death has just changed her life. Mike Flynn is adamant his best friend didn't do it and she can see his concern about the investigation. They team up and go on the trail of a killer who is watching her closely and just as determined not to let her get close to the truth. Bree and Matt team up to uncover the secrets of her sister's life ...and death .... but someone out there wants those secrets kept hidden and will do anything to keep Bree away from investigating.
