About this deal

In a stunning office thirteen floors above the city below, you are all alone with the man interviewing you. This book guides career development seekers about general software programming questions and solutions to target engineering information technology people seeking jobs. In addition, it provides the author’s observations regarding common mistakes made by interviewees. Key Takeaways Writing as Chris Ewan, I'm also the author of SAFE HOUSE, DARK TIDES, DEAD LINE and LONG TIME LOST, as well as the popular GOOD THIEF'S GUIDE TO ... series of mysteries about globetrotting crime writer and thief-for-hire, Charlie Howard. The interviewer is Joel White and Edge's receptionist excitedly tells her that he's flown in from the New York office to do the interviews. The staff are all trying to find out if he's single! It's perhaps a good thing that Kate doesn't know that Joel has flown in from Shanghai and that the name on the paperwork was very different. Kate's going to be on her own in the office with White: the rest of the staff have gone home and most of the other offices in the building are not yet occupied. Chris Ewan is used to crafting light-hearted capers such as his Good Thief’s Guide novels, as well as shadowy mysteries like Safe House and Dark Tides. The Interview veers more towards a corporate thriller in many ways, with an urban setting which is unlike many of the author’s previous thrillers. In a big building, in a big city, there are always people around even after hours, which offers hope to Kate. Time and again she comes tantalisingly close to notifying someone of her predicament, only for Joel to smother all hope with his constant threats of violence.

But when you’re reading a thriller like this, sometimes you’ve just got to go with it. CM Ewan certainly has a talent for writing immersive action and I did fully care about Kate’s predicament. There’s no way I could have helped her answer Joel’s employment questions, but I was full of suggestions on ways to get out of the building, many of which she attempted and that made me feel a part of things well beyond the interview itself. Fantastically tense crime fiction to read in your armchair or on a journey. Not just first-time job seekers but also career changers can read this book on identifying your strengths gained from previous jobs and presenting or selling yourself in the market. There is a unique and researched approach given for approaching the tough algorithm questions and how to make decisions in such problems. But still, I would say if the writing doesn't bother you, and you have enough time to read absolutely anything and want something just for the spice and the 'protective/possessive' male character, then sure, go for it.I enjoyed The Interview very much. The characterisation is excellent. It was easy to empathise with Kate after all that she's been through: you want her to succeed, to be able to rebuild her life. It's still early days in the passage of grief but you admire that she's trying to improve her life rather than wallowing in self-pity. Strangely enough, I found myself respecting Joel White. He's there to do a job (and it's not a job that many of us would want) but sometimes you spot a little concern for Kate creeping in. I always try to leave a little bit of a positive in a review even if I didn't enjoy a book but the only one I can add to this review is that I did finish the book as I did have an inkling of curiosity to see how the absurdity was wrapped up. In all honesty, it was the fantastic narration of Maguire that managed to keep me holding on until the end. Do you know how bad the writing has to be, for like me to notice? Me, a middle eastern, non-native English speaker? Sooo many typos! At first, I thought maybe this is just too advanced for my broke English bc I wasn’t understanding anything, but then I realized no one is understanding. Thriller fans, brace yourselves – this book will swallow you whole. You are going to be holding your breath from start to finish and loving every minute. Do not miss out, add this title to your TBR – C M Ewan will leave you WOW’ED with this one.

Everyone else had gone home and there was no way out. So I nervously sipped the filtered water from the carafe on the table and wondered what the hell was going on. This is my first book by C.M. Ewan and I can't wait for more. He might just be my new favourite thriller author. Kate is called to an interview for a PR position at Edge Communication late on a Friday afternoon. This position will provide her with the challenge she needs and is guaranteed to keep her busy, which is exactly what Kate needs.Common mistakes made by job seekers and behind-scenes of the interview process conducted at Google, Facebook, etc., have also been described in this book, helping to understand real-world practice and to help to prepare candidates for such jobs. The action all takes place in the space of a few hours: it will take you longer to read the book! Please try and remember to breathe: it's all too easy to get so engaged in the story that you forget. The plotting is superb and the pace never lets up. Everything that happens seems to follow logically from what has gone before and it's easy to see why Kate is torn between answering the questions in the hope of getting the job and walking away from the situation.

The characters are well-developed, with Kate as a strong and smart protagonist. No frustration or suspension of disbelief over her behaviour and actions at all; she thought of so many things I would have never even considered.Overall, we thought the characters all worked pretty well across the story. They’re all presented as being competent and intelligent, reminding us a lot of some of the characters from a book like Shiver or Breathless. What worked especially well was how Kate had to try several things before making any sort of breakthrough, such is the expertise Joel has in what he does.

Targeting the interview process from the interviewer’s point, the author has attempted to generate positive results by identifying the qualitative factors required for the step-by-step approach of an interview. I think the author’s observation of the information coding and decoding (interpreting information shared in the resume and shared by the interviewee) is wonderful and well researched and observed. It will help many interviewers frame the interview process and get the most out of it. Key Takeaways Her husband was killed in the MarshJet air disaster some fifteen months ago and coming to terms with his death and trying to rebuild her life has been difficult. Recently she's been working at Simple PR in a job that was almost created for her by the owners, Simon and Rebecca. She feels guilty about looking for another job but she needs to do something which will challenge her - and she's not getting that at Simple PR. Oh boy did I enjoy this book! The definition of a keep you up all night, read in one sitting thriller’ Now for the bad bits, unfortunately for me there were many. A completely illogical and implausible plotline that had huge gaping holes along with a heavy handed and repetitive writing style made this one of the least enjoyable books I've consumed in quite a while. How an author describes the sweat on a characters brow three times within about 30 seconds is beyond me!Kate Harding is going for an interview for her dream job at Edge Communications. It's the last interview of the day at one of London's newest office buildings and Edge have fitted out their part of the building to be something special. Maggie, Kate's recruitment agent, is keen to see that Kate approaches the interview in a good state of mind: Kate assumes that this is because Maggie will get a decent bonus if Kate gets the job - and she has to admit that life has not been easy for her recently. Gayle has covered almost 150 questions on software programming generally covered by the interviewers and tried to guide how one should draft the ideal solution.
