About this deal

a majority of the time i’d be taking it to work and keeping/chaining/u-locking it in the break room. In the end, between the Kryptonite in 10mm and t Unlike D/U locks, chain locks aren’t supplied with a mounting system that allows them to be attached to your bike. It didn’t cause me any discomfort when I went for a ride with the Mastiff over my shoulder, and It wouldn’t be too heavy for everyday use. The Mastiff 8019 is one of the two chains that use the Boxer U-Lock, a lock that I hadn’t had experience with before producing this review.

They're only 1 mm thicker than the 7 mm chains and although this makes them a fair bit more secure, they still only get a Silver rating from Sold Secure.

the Mastiff is more suited to stationary use, but if you’re feeling fit, you can carry the mastiff whilst you ride. However, in the United Kingdom Sold Secure Gold rated bike locks are approved for use by most insurers unless your riding the most expensive bike, in which case you’ll probably need a Sold Secure Diamond rated bike lock.

So as I’ve just covered, the Mastiff 8019 is made up from the Mastiff chain and OnGuard’s Boxer U-Lock. Secondly, because you can wrap them around your seat post or top bar, they can be easier to transport. I’ve enjoyed using it alongside my mid-range fixed gear bike over the past few weeks and haven’t experienced any issues or setbacks.

These are supposed to be more difficult for bolt cutters to grip and spread the cropping pressure over a larger surface. Until the release of the LITELOK X1 and Hiplok D1000, the Fahgettaboudit had sat as the ruler of all D locks for years. If your bike uses quick-release wheel skewers, you may decide to remove your front wheel and lock it at the same time with the chain lock. As stated above, using a cable extension alongside the Mastiff chain is a straightforward way to secure your front wheel.

Over the three years of using the Fahgettaboudit Mini, its been exposed to the elements (rain, snow, sand, dust, mud etc.Whereas links with diameters between 13 and 15 mm can only be cut by the very biggest 42" bolt cutters which most bike thieves will not have. In this ABUS Granit CityChain X-Plus 1060 review, I’ll let you in on the strengths and weaknesses of this bike chain lock to help you decide if it’s suitable for securing your bike. But if you're circumstances are high risk, then the Kryptonite New York Noose or Gold Hiplok chain lock would be my choice.

Securing two bikes with this chain is a bit fiddly, but it’s possible if you position your bikes correctly. the reason why i’m having trouble pulling the trigger on it is because i seem to be low risk as the bike will only be used in emergency situations and more often than not will be kept in an extremely limited access room to people who can be tracked and with absolutely zero access to the public. This dual locking system secures either side of the chain link in place with two locking bolts and provides additional security against hydraulic and twist attacks. If you’re looking for a portable, Sold Secure Gold rated bicycle chain lock that provides a good number of locking options, the CityChain 1060 is about as good as they come. I’ll also teach you the best ways you can use the Fahgettaboudit to increase the security of your bike whilst it’s locked. I’d recommend a quick clean and re-lubrication of the CityChain’s locking mechanism every one to two months, depending on how frequently you’re using it. the Fahgettaboudit Mini is heavier than most D locks on the market, but for the security it offers, its increased weight is understandable. Whereas a stationary chain lock will be left at home (or wherever you leave your bike overnight) and only used there to secure your bike (or more likely several bikes) over longer periods of time.
