About this deal

With a display resolution of 3840 x 2160p, you’ll be able to show content in 4K UHD. HD and SD video will be upscaled, though the TV absolutely looks its best with 4K material. The Toshiba 50UL2063DB is a television that offers a range of features. It has a 50-inch display, providing a large viewing area for an immersive entertainment experience. The TV utilizes LED technology, which offers vibrant and sharp visuals. It has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, providing crisp and detailed images.

In fact, the only HDMI 2.1-related feature the 50UK3163DB’s HDMIs do support is automatic low latency mode switching, so that the TV can activate its low input lag game mode when a game source is detected. This results in a seriously good input lag figure of just 10.1ms. Die playing in Call Of Duty on the Toshiba 50UK3163DB and you’ve only got yourself to blame. The solution? Poke around your TV's settings to see if you can find the power-scheduling feature and ensure it's disabled. Again, you may have to search online (or consult your manual) to figure out where this feature is in the menus. The UL2063 comes with a full-size IR remote control, sporting dedicated buttons for Prime Video, Netflix and Freeview Play. Not that you have to rely on the zapper. You can always use voice commands to switch channels, tweak volume or ask your digital assistant for a news update or weather report. You’ll need an Alexa or Google device on your network to use voice control – they’re not built-in.Connections comprise three HDMI inputs (one with ARC) plus a VGA PC input and a digital optical audio output for connection to a soundbar or audio system. There are also two USB 2.0 ports. Ethernet offers a physical option alongside Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Picture presets come in Dynamic, Game, Sports, Cinema, Natural, Dolby Vision Bright, Dolby Vision Dark, and User adjustable. Our advice would be to select the Cinema preset for consistent contrast and clarity, regardless whether you’re watching TV shows or movies.

The UL21 is Toshiba’s entry-level 4K HDR TV, sitting below the UK31 and the UA2B, which is the company’s Android TV option. It’s available in four screen sizes: 43in, 50in, 55in and 65in.

The use of direct LED lighting, where the LEDs sit right behind the screen rather than around the edges, joins the extensive HDR support in boding well for the 50UK3163DB’s picture quality, as this approach typically yields better contrast than lighting systems that use LEDs ranged around the picture’s edges. Some Toshiba TVs support Bluetooth technology – please refer to the specification section of the model you are interested in.

The mid-range is quite open and expressive, and escalates decently well to meet the challenge of big action movie moments. Screen uniformity is pretty decent thanks to the use of a direct-lit rather than edge-lit panel but coverage of the Rec.709 colour gamut could be better, with the UL21 only able to reproduce 92.8% of the colour space. Colour accuracy is impressive, however, with all five of the modes achieving average DeltaE error scores below the visible threshold of three. Cinema mode proved the most accurate of the quintet, returning an average DeltaE of 2.59, though Natural mode will likely be the one most people gravitate towards as colours appear more vivid. Hold down the manual button on the unit for 30 seconds (if unsure of location please refer to the user manual). With an engaging array of features, and surprisingly well-specified image processing suite, Toshiba’s budget-priced UL2063 is a tempting proposition for bargain hunters.

To test the Toshiba UL21 we used Portrait Displays Calman colour calibration software. Toshiba UL21 review: Sound quality While the 50UK3163DB isn’t anything special when it comes to handling dark images, it sure stands out with the intensity it brings to both bright parts of dark scenes, and full-screen bright HDR content. In fact, when it comes to the bright end of the light spectrum, it delivers arguably the most aggressive HDR performance in its class. The only problems with the smart system, really, are that it can be a bit sluggish to load when you hit the Home button, and that it doesn’t currently carry either the Disney+ or Apple TV apps. If you need advice on your faulty product please feel free to ask, we will be more than happy to advise you. There are a few different picture modes to choose from which alter the screen settings based on the type of content you’re watching, those include Natural, Cinema, Game, Sports and Dynamic. Natural was the best option for the majority of the content I watched as colours looked overly vivid in the Dynamic and Game modes but then were a little dull in the Cinema and Sports mode. If you’d prefer, you can also manually adjust screen settings like the contrast, brightness, sharpness and colour. Toshiba UL21 (50UL2163DBC) review: sound quality We're currently building two sepearate databases to give users the best and most informative ways of searching for their parts Search by Part Number The 50UK3163DB’s HDR efforts aren’t the only way it makes an unexpected mark on the affordable TV world, either. Its native 4K pictures also look remarkably sharp and detailed. So much so, in fact, that they make the efforts of even some recent LCD TVs we’ve seen from the usually dependable Samsung look soft and undefined by comparison. (Though its upscaled HD pictures, by comparison, look a little soft and noisy.)
