About this deal

So I have been using the Dewalt router, and I must admit I am not very happy with it for a couple of reasons. It's easy to calibrate for a consistent starting point and getting very exact results for a number of operations. The Power Tools Division of the Bosch Group is the world market leader for power tools and power tool accessories. It may be that Bosch corrected the issues with bit wander mentioned previously, but I've had no such issue. Constant response circuitry, the router will maintain a constant speed throughout the cut, resulting in clean, accurate product.

I'm going to test it with the new route base plate and if it still needs weight on the other side, I'll find some sort of weight to make it work. It's casing is well machined, and while that has little bearing on it's overall performance, it is a sign that the unit is quality manufactured.

This isn't possible with the routers featuring the dust collection and dust shields, because of the limit these place on plunge depth with multiple passes. Not too heavy and no vibrations which is especially important as a female user as I'm able to easily control the feed rate. I thought I read somewhere on the forum that the Bosch track saw can use the Festool rail, which is what made me think the Bosch router plate might work too. There is not really a better place to put the switch that would not interfere and either get dirty or turn the unit off/on accidentally. It has the power switch in the one knob and is very helpful for keeping balance when turning on the power.I have heard of the sticking issue before, I think it was on older models due to different materials and is no longer an issue with current model (I think). My favourite router, never a issue,a strong performer, well balanced, feels good in my handsmy thought exactly, mines been upside down in a router table for 2 years in daily use.

While building, I realized that the router base needed to be propped up so that it's "level" once the whole thing is assembled.

I can’t get the depth of the bit to be exactly what I want unless I DON’T use the fine adjustment feature of the router. I don't think it would compromise the ability to securely tighten the edge guide attachments too much, so I'm tempted to do it.

I did have to slow down on mdf, but that was more likely due to my bit than the router, though you hear the router kick into high power mode. The fine-depth adjustment on the fixed base is excellent and easy to use, offering very precise adjustments. At this time, I'm not in a position to acquire any of the Festool router and I really like my Bosch 1617. I noticed it sounded like the router was trying to adjust the RPM/speed and then would just turn off.
