About this deal

Desiccant dehumidifiers extract water using an absorbent material to draw moisture from the air. Then an internal heater warms it so the moisture condenses and drips into the tank below.

Domestic dehumidifiers can extract up to 25 litres of water per day. We have largely focused on 20l models since these are the most popular for domestic use. For larger spaces, damper environments or colder temperatures, choose something more powerful. (Or vice versa for smaller spaces.) The other downside is that the tank only has a slightly low capacity of 2 litres. Therefore, while it is relatively easy to empty the tank, the process will need to be repeated more often. If you're wondering how to get rid of mould in a poorly ventilated room, or trying to combat excess moisture or humidity inside the home, then a dehumidifier can be a useful tool in your arsenal.

How much does a dehumidifier cost to run?

Unlike a compressor dehumidifier that passes air over a cold coil to condense the water from it, a desiccant dehumidifier uses a 'desiccant chemical' to absorb the moisture from the air. As a result, desiccant dehumidifiers are the best option for rooms that are likely to fall below 15°c, as at lower temperatures compressor and Peltier models can struggle to work efficiently. My property is a standard 2 bed house, with recent double-glazed windows, which are very efficient for keeping the cold winter weather out. The problem is they’re too good! That may seem odd, but older windows ‘leak’ and therefore produce a stream of fresh air, which combats condensation.

Who are Electriq though? Which are the company's the best dehumidifiers? And are there any you should avoid? Let's find out. Who Are Electriq? The advantage of this type of dehumidifier is that it works well in warm and cold spaces. The only downside is that they tend to release warm air into a room, which you may not want in an already-heated home. However, they are ideal for a cold garage, loft or conservatory as they can operate below 10 degrees, unlike a compressor dehumidifier. They are also much quieter, so they might be a preferable option for you to use in a bedroom. Their main disadvantage is that they use a lot more energy and therefore cost more to run. Refrigerant (compressor) dehumidifier With advice from air conditioning experts Ryan Kandola and Chris Wood and with help from others in The Telegraph Recommended team, I have tried and tested the best dehumidifiers on the market for energy efficiency, drying power, value for money and, where possible, quiet running. “Remember, size isn’t everything,” Ryan says. “Look at the area you’re dealing with and choose the right size of unit. You’ll be surprised at just how powerful some of the small dehumidifiers are.” High demand

There are several brands of 12L dehumidifier, but the ElectriQ 12L dehumidifier stands tall. It features a wide array of features that aren’t found in standard 12L dehumidifiers. Below are some of its outstanding features. 2.5L water tank

The electriQ 12 Litre Dehumidifier is perfect. It’s easy to use and makes a huge difference to me and my Asthma. I especially like the LED lighting indicator which is easy to follow and understand. Emptying the water tank is easy too and you’ll be just as surprised as me as to how much condensation has been collected. We get our products developed in the same factories as their branded cousins. They even use a lot of the same bits and pieces to make them too. It can't quite beat the MeacoDry Arete One on overall performance, but if you're willing to put up with noisier operation and higher running costs in exchange for its powerful performance, then this Pro Breeze model will make short work of getting wet washing ready for the airing cupboard. If you have more serious damp issues, then although a dehumidifier can help to reduce the problem and improve the air quality in your home, it won't prevent the damp from occurring in the first place, so it's important to get to the root of the issue. Read our guide to how to get rid of damp for help in identifying the cause of your damp issues, and how to treat them. The Pro Breeze is great if you’ve got a smaller space and you want something that doesn’t cost a lot to run,” says expert Kandola. “It’s probably about a penny an hour.”

What's the best dehumidifier to buy?

This doesn't mean the CD10L has no redeeming qualities. It's just as quiet as the CD20LE, at 42dB, and has a high build quality. It's also relatively energy efficient and lightweight - along with being one of the cheapest Electriq models. The transparent water tank means I can keep tabs on when to empty it although it rarely needs emptying more than once a day. The dehumidifier also automatically switches off when the water tank reaches its maximum capacity of 2.1l. Fan speeds: Some dehumidifiers have just one speed for continuous drying, limiting your control. Whilst others have up to three, which is advantageous if you want to adjust it for faster drying or put it on a lower (and possibly quieter) setting. It's fair to say that most dehumidifiers aren't the most stylish of appliances, which is why the De'Longhi Tascuigo AriaDry Multi Dehumidifier is something of a breath of fresh air amidst the usual boxy white plastic designs.
