Hugo Boss launched Hugo Dark Blue in 1999 as an oriental spicy fragrance for men. Hugo Dark Blue opens up with orange, ginger, grapefruit, lemon and lime then moves into a blend of mahogany, cypress, sage, geranium and cardamom and then finishes off with patchouli, benzoin, vetiver, cedar and vanilla. Hugo Dark Blue was created by Alain Astori and Beatrice Piquet. the scent is blended very well. top note of lime and grapefruit make it quite a pleasant smell at first spray. the dry down is woody cardomom and vetiver. This is not a sweet scent, its very businesslike but also the bottle gives you the impression it is quite metallic. I actually felt this is a very sporty scent. I happen to like Dark Blue a lot. It works well in cooler seasons, but it could be used in spring and early summer as well. It's dark, a little bit spicy and woody. This fragrance has very good performance on my skin and lasts a full work day with out problem. As much as I understand and defend the theory that lasting is personal and non-transferable, even so, when many people around the world complain about the same things of a certain fragrance, it is a sign that it is a common problem in the composition or in its manufacture. Fortunately, that didn't happen with this one. On the contrary, Hugo Dark Blue exudes and, above all, lasts very well, as well as Boss Intense, the latter being a feminine perfume. Hugo Boss Dark Blue is amazing. The three words I use to describe this is citrusy cola, woody and dark. The open is heavily citrus with a strong . Hugo Boss Dark Blue has a scent that reminds me of a citrusy cola like Coke Orange or Mezzo Mix with the grapefruit and lime mix as well as orange and lemon with ginger to spice it up. The scent is very woody with some mahogany seeping into the open from the mid and the cedar in the base. I feel that it also has a very dark feel to it, very similar to a less minty Cool Water Night Dive, especially in its open. That said, the scents themselves are different, rather it evokes a similar night-time watery feel.personalised marketing experience, including on 3rd Party Advertising Platforms such as Google, and also Hugo Boss Dark Blue comes off as a spicy ginger fragrance, almost like a spicy ginger beer.. I don’t get vanilla here tho. Vanilla doesn’t appear to be present on my skin which is no big deal because I’m not a huge vanilla fan.. This is awesome.. I think this is meant to be worn casual more than dressed up.. This would be great for the office, and casual nights out and parties.. A great value for money I got a 2.5 oz bottle for 26 dollars... Very very nice!! This fragrance's opening is rather medicinal and strong. It's not fresh but it is unique. Hugo Dark Blue is definitely a masculine fragrance. I think a woman would find this scent difficult to wear. So...Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe it's been formulated, or a combination of both. It's hard to imagine but I could ever not like this. It's freaking magical. It's a tiny bit sweet but the spicy cola vibe mixed with the aromatic citrus gives it some lift and brightness. On my skin, the dry down is all vanilla and cedar. A very strong and masculine scent, that's perfect for evenings and formal wear. It worked on my skin, however mileage varies (as the comments here indicate), and it might not be for you...it's of very acquired taste.

I don't normally think of smells as masculine or feminine but this one feels masculine to me. It's nicely understated and I think it feels more suited to evenings and nights than day wear. I also think it feels like summer is not really its time of year. It feels more autumnal and wintery, possibly early spring days where there is that crispness in the morning air. Dark Blue is ok. A masculine, woody/spicy base and a definite cola vibe on top as others are reporting. Specifically, it smells like ginger ale. I love the citrus tones in this fragrance. That’s what you get on the outset. As long as it lingers, it smells very nice. Perfect for the non-winter months. A subtle soft yet touch of sharp scent. I personally like this one a lot, but I didn't notice it being an attention grabbing type of scent.
