About this deal

A supercharged alternative to Warp Lightning, Karandras Green is one of the most intense Contrast paints in the whole range. The Kroxigor is a lovely model and also very easy to assemble. I ended up using some liquid green stuff to fill some small gaps, but hard to know if that was my failure to fit the model properly or the nature of the kit. As I mentioned, this is a fantastic horde base. It doesn’t require any real crafting or planning, and can easily be done in batches. If you don’t like how one particular base turned out, don’t throw it away. Go ahead and use it, and try different paint/wash/drybrush ratios on the next base. Once they are sitting next to 50+ other models with similar bases, they all blend together and any imperfections are entirely lost. Looking at all angles of your model, make sure your dry brush covers only the raised surfaces of your miniature. This is the key thing you want to do when you’re looking to add that “extra dimension” to your miniature. 5. Add highlights with dry brushing After that the whole mini was drybrushed lightly with Necron Compound all over with Emphasis being placed on Metallic Edges such as the Shoulders and Gorget.

The key here is to leave a good area flat area for your models to stand on, then some interesting shapes as required. This is a lovely kit and I’m really happy with the results. There certainly were many fiddly bits, with many ropes and hidden crevices breaking up the surfaces and hiding out of sight. You’ll also need to decide for yourself if you want to go with the facemasks or not, but overall this is a very distinctive team (with clearly identifiable positionals!) that makes a great visual impact on the pitch. Lizzie: Like many, painting yellow has always been a challenge for me. Not any more! Imperial Fist, alongside Ironjawz Yellow and Bad Moon Yellow, provides the perfect solution to your yellow painting needs.

The Casandora Yellow paint from Citadel Colour is a highly specialized colour for miniature painting. As a wash, it is perfect for creating the illusion of sunlight and casting deep, rich shadows. The acrylic pigments are carefully crafted to produce a vibrant, matt finish that adds depth and character to any miniature. With excellent coverage and a range of complementary colours for miniatures, this paint is perfect for both beginners and advanced painters, and is a versatile addition to any painter’s palette. Think of it as the warm, golden glow of a summer afternoon, adding life and vibrancy to your miniature. What Armies of the Imperium to paint with Casandora Yellow One thing that I'd add to your naming comments is that the Citadel paints have never been friendly to non-GW players, and now it's even worse. You comment that the greens are grouped as Dark Eldar names, or it would have been nice to have different IG element names. To someone who generally likes Citadel paints but doesn't play GW games, this is a near-useless naming convention. At least the old names usually included "Green" or "Blue" or "Ochre". Many of the new ones do, but we've also got things like "Rhinox Hide" and "Stormvermin Fur" that tell you nothing about the actual color. By far my favorite is "XV-88". I'm sure that means something to hardcore GW players, but it's beyond useless to me. While in conversation with the guys in the shop, I mentioned my difficulty with yellow as being a reason I'd never painted attempted Imperial Fists or Lamenters. The fine folks at the Lakeside store suggested an alternative approach which I've since refined slightly, however the basics are all theirs. Don’t forget to tune into our special Hang Out and Hobby sessions running ahead of the #WarhammerPaintathon, where our hosts will be on hand to show you just how these new colours work. So Games Workshop released a compatibility chart for the old and new range, but if you have a closer look, you’ll notice that a couple of new paints are assigned to two different old paints. For example Caliban Green, which is a substitute for both Orkhide Shade and Dark Angels Green, or The Fang, which is subsitute for both Shadow Grey and Fenris Grey. This already gives a clue what you can expect in terms of compatibility. A lot of people wonder if they will find good matches once they run out of their old paint. I got a lot of questions in this regard, however I can only make a grab sample as I couldn’t get my hand on all the new paints. Here is a swatch with four old and new Citadel paints:

Glazes are new and compliment the shades. There are four tones, one for each of the three basic colours and green. They are similar to washes, but lighter and thinner and they don’t settle as much in the recesses as washes do. They are meant to be used for tinting areas or to restore colours that have been overly highlighted. You can see a glaze with Lamenters Yellow on the picture below so you can compare the effect with Casandora Yellow above.Yellow is easy. Seriously. I'm actually gonna spend more time trying to describe what to do, than what it what actually take to do. You'll need a few things. Let your viewers’ eye travel over the model by adding interesting points at different parts of the model. If you do want to focus your painting efforts, I would suggest make sure the “face” is well-painted. The face carries the rest of the model in most cases. OPTIONAL STEPS Just as foundation paints, the old washes were very popular. Everybody loved them because they made it easy to get decent results in very little time, even for the not so gifted painters. I imagine a lot of people got quite nervous when they heard that their beloved washes got replaced. The shades definitely have to take on a difficult heritage, but in those video testimonials over on GW.com they full-bodied said that they made them even better. Let’s see if this is true. Verdict: Glazes are meant for the more experienced painter. You can create some interesting effects that wouldn’t be possible with regular paint, but be aware that the tint is quite strong so you probably need to thin them down for more subtle effects. Dry Compounds Runelord Brass (brass) is a metallic paint that can be used to add a touch of shine and realism to the model. Brass is a split-complementary color to yellow, which means that it is a color that sits on either side of the complementary color. When used in combination with Casandora Yellow and Naggaroth Night, it creates a balanced and visually interesting color combo.

For this project, I used an airbrush to coat my models with gray Vallejo surface primer in a spray booth.Congrats if you have followed the tute up to this step. Your model is done. You and it are great. Go celebrate this greatness! TheChirurgeon’s Method But, I suppose now I’m relying on a new product…As you see with Citadel Contrast color, it speeds up the first base coat process by allowing you to apply it straight from the pot everywhere.
