About this deal

The Notch: Mare wakes up at their new home base in forest called “the Notch.” When Cal sees Maven’s brand, he promises he’ll never let Maven hurt her again. Cal and Mare kiss (!!!) and Mare gives us the quote we could recite in our sleep because it still gives us chills: “If I am a sword, I am a sword made of glass, and I feel myself beginning to shatter.”But since this is a rebellion, there’s still actual work to be done. While at the Notch, Cal has taken up the task of training the Newbloods, including those we introduced to you above. I found this novel much better than the first one as it seemed much more enticing and develops your understanding of Mare’s world. It even brings you much closer to her character. I think Red Queen (the first in the series) was more to show what this new found world was like and how Mare fit into it, but Glass Sword was much more individualistic and presents Mare as a much stronger character. She's so full of righteous anger and rebellious spirit that she never once thinks about the implications and consequences of her actions.

First 50% I was mostly bored. >>Not that the writing wasn't amazing, because it was, or because there wasn't action, because there was, but because there was little romance and no Maven and no palace and I just wasn't as entertained as the first book. But that all changed the second half when things got GOOD... When they were children, Maven was always trailing Cal, wanting to spend every moment with his older brother. Maven used to ask to sleep in Cal's room. Gradually, Elara took pieces of Maven, including his love for Cal, which she cut off entirely and twisted. Maven remembered to have loved Cal, but could not feel that love anymore. Maven felt like his father favored Cal and only wanted to spend time with his heir, neglecting Maven. He always felt like he was the shadow to Cal's flame and envied him for that. He's initially engaged to Evangeline Samos but later marries Iris Cygnet. The Scarlet Guard teamed with Montfort soldiers manage to liberate Mare as well as dozens of other newbloods under the sworn "protection" of King Maven.Discover more wonders in the world of Red Queen with Broken Throne: A Red Queen Collection, a companion novel with stories from fan favorites and new voices, featuring never-before-seen maps, flags, bonus scenes, journal entries, and much more exclusive content! Glass Sword ended on such a high note. I think Victoria Aveyard is becoming the queen of plot twists! The set up for the next book looks ridiculously exciting.' - Dana and The Books Red Queen has been generally well received. The Guardian gave the novel four stars. [7] Vilma Gonzalez of USA Today described the novel positively, revealing that "Aveyard’s compelling debut is richly imagined, addictive, chilling and suspenseful. She breathes new life into her own unique Game of Thrones story enlivened by exciting, character-driven plot twists that have me clamoring for more. This scintillating tale of betrayals and blood-spattered crowns is not to be missed." [8] The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Prince Maven, the friend who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind. The Collector's Edition of Glass Sword was published on November 6, 2018. It comes with a printed case and has color interior art, a redesigned cover, silver-stained edges, and a bonus Glass Sword scene from Shade Barrow's point of view about the early stages of his relationship with Farley. Here’s our recap of what happened in Glass Sword. Read on for a full plot summary to refresh your memory! in short There are people who read Shatter Me who refused to forgive Warner. I realize rooting for Maven is crazy to a rational eye, but in books I tend to love and sympathize with the villain and I'm sorry but reading that ending where Mare has given herself over to Maven in exchange for everyone's freedom... I just know there is so much potential there.Maven was introduced at the Queenstrial alongside his brother, Cal, and his mother, Queen Elara. After the disastrous event where Mare displayed her electrokinetic abilities in front of the Silver noble families, Maven is present with his family when she is taken before the king. Maven is betrothed to Mare by his father as part of the cover story that Mare is the missing Silver lady "Mareena Titanos," and their wedding will ultimately serve as a distraction from the growing insurrection mounted by the Scarlet Guard. Both Mare and Maven were not happy about this turn of events, with Maven admitting had never thought that he would be forced to marry, being the second prince, and had wanted the ability to choose a bride. With time, Maven and Mare grew close as she came to sympathize with the seemingly thoughtful and open-minded prince languishing in his older brother's shadow. When Mare secretly met with Diana Farley and swore allegiance to the Guard, she is surprised when Maven is brought to the meeting as he seemingly wanted to join the rebellion - he offers his access to royal court information and proceedings and displays his disagreement with his father's belief that Reds and Silvers should not be equal. The Guard is convinced and Maven supposedly swears by his family's colors to the Guard. He is later trusted to come to Naercey with Mare and witness the rebels operating out of the ruined city, which was a disguised Guard stronghold and sanctuary for Reds fleeing the lowered age of conscription. Perfect for fans of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, Glass Sword is the high-stakes follow up to the #1 New York Times bestselling Red Queen. Cameron Cole: Arguably the most significant Newblood in Glass Sword, Cameron has the ability to Silence the abilities of others to the point of killing them. Born into the slums of New Town, Cameron was held in Corros Prison and managed to escape. Her main goal is to rescue her twin brother, Morrey Cole. We follow Mare and her rag-tag group of middle-aged superheros ran here and there as a giant X-men recruitment fest. There was a lot of adventure in this book, I loved being able to explore Norta more and in addition to adventure we got heaps of action. Speaking of action, can I just take a moment to fully appreciate our exiled Price of fire, Cal? WHOA, my only complaint is I wanted, needed more of him and if I’m honest, a lot less Mare ha! Okay, not my only complaint, basically my biggest one is with a certain action scene, basically someone died but it wasn’t explained at all. The whole chapter was a mess and wasn't until the next chapter that you realise 'said character' died? Huh! *sigh*

It turns out that Maven is planning on sending thousands of child soldiers north to the front lines. Obviously these children are going to die. Mare feels responsible.Maven Calore: King Tiberias VI's second son through his second wife, Elara Merandus, and thus Cal's half-brother. He is shy, but Mare's sudden engagement with him makes him open up. Like Cal and his father, Maven has the ability to control flames. Maven is deeply jealous of Cal, partly because he thought his brother had won Mare's heart, the way he had won their father's. In contrast, Mare had preferred Maven over Cal. For everything you could possibly be looking for, I can suggest a better book/series than this one. Unless you are actively seeking poor writing and boredom. Gisa Barrow: Mare's 14-year-old sister who works as an apprentice for a seamstress, until her broken hand terminates her from the job. Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever? Evangeline Samos: A haughty girl who is made Cal's fiancée after being declared the best of the aspiring princesses. She holds a grudge against Mare, particularly after the latter humiliates her by expending her electrokinesis and repelling her magnetic manipulation, a trait of the House Samos.

Sara Skonos: A friend of Julian who works as a nurse with her ability to heal people, known as Skin Healing. She seems to know the truth behind the death of Cal's mother, Queen Coriane, and Elara thus punished her by mutilating her tongue, making her mute. But I think the struggle of the begging was worth it once I got to the second half. It was truly an excellent second half. So the stars are purely for the second half, the first half is a zero from me. well you gave this reign of terror the chance to begin but there's no point repeating that, right?) They run through the prison, freeing as many newbloods as they can. Mare kills a tonne of guards and Cal gets mad at her. All the characters are great, and the relationships that Victoria Aveyard builds and breaks between them will have you feeling all the emotions, there is a great mix of action and contemplation that works so terrifically well.' - Liz Loves BooksJon also points them to a young, headstrong newblood named Cameron. She has escaped from this prison and also has the ability to shut off other people’s powers. She reluctantly agrees to help Mare in her rescue mission. Part of me wants to hold my ground, to stand, to fight. My purple-and-white lightening will certainly make me a target and draw the jets away from the fleeing Guard. I might even take a plane or two with me. But that cannot be. I'm worth more than the rest, more than red masks and bandages. Aveyard once stated that if Mare could be any character, it would be Lindsey Morgan, otherwise known as Raven Reyes from "The 100". [citation needed] After Maven Calore betrays her, she becomes much more secretive. She starts to push her closest friends and family away, to the point where she and some of her allies refuse to talk for weeks. She develops what she thinks is a despicable habit of killing Silvers without mercy and has little control of the new monster which threatens to take up her humanity. In an argument with Cal, he tells her that she "has no love for anybody", including himself.
