About this deal

He's a high school teacher and is happy with his job and the fact that he's the primary caretaker of his son, due to his wife's more demanding job. I’m pretty sure I say this every year, but 2022 has truly been another outstanding year for crime fiction readers. As Joe goes deeper into his investigation of his own personal life, it begins to appear that someone is threatening him - and that they are using the anonymity of social media to do so without repercussion. And the inclusion of a mini-cliffhanger at the conclusion of almost every chapter made it difficult to put down. Highly recommended for fans of Lisa Jewell’s THEN SHE WAS GONE and Jennifer Hillier’s LITTLE SECRETS, this is a 2023 mystery not to be missed.

After losing sight of his wife briefly Joe manages to find her inside the building talking with a family friend, only the conversation looks to be quite intense. I do like that Joe try to take active roles in solving his situation rather than just sit back and complain. With his young son excited over the prospect of seeing mommy Joe follows his wife to a nearby hotel thinking she was going to a business meeting. Sometimes you just need to read a really fun psychological thriller—and that’s the boat I found myself in last week. Why include the scene in which he saw a man smoking and — because he knew smoking killed you — he expected him to fall down, dead, right that very moment?THAT moment when you see or know something that you would kill not too and your heart and gut just drop. Joe Lynch is just an ordinary happily-married man - until one split-second decision throws his life into crisis. I enjoyed the adorable child in this book who had a ‘part’ in LIFE WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN for his family when one night the child spotted “mummy’s car”. As Joe fights to prove his innocence, he comes to realize his happily ever after has been built on lies.

I’ve found that a lot of books either ignore ubiquitous technology such as social media, or force it in awkwardly. Had it not been for the final 40-odd pages of LIES, my final review of this thriller would look a whole lot different than the review you are currently reading.e. Facebook) into a crime thriller – the technology in this case was front and center and in some instances, even became one of the focal “characters” in the story. Parts of the story were also bogged down by what I felt were details that didn’t matter (for example, one of the characters taking out their smart phone, swiping over to an app, opening file manager, going through each folder, pulling up a file, closing it out, etc. Ben is animated and plainly angry, pointing his finger at Mel, “his voice a barely controlled growl. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had me quickly turning those pages, I just had to know what in the world was going on! Thus, Joe sets out to prove that Ben is not only alive, but the mastermind behind a series of events that jeopardize Joe’s reputation and career, including an altered photograph that is posted on Facebook.

After all, any finale can be hard to predict if the reader isn’t given even a chance at puzzling it out over the course of the novel. I’ve heard raves of this book from friends across the pond and early readers here in the US alike, but my reading experience was unfortunately less than stellar. Ben is obviously still aggravated and one thing leads to another with Joe pushing Ben but just as he should see if Ben is alright his son has an asthma attack so Joe leaves.Joe Lynch did when his young son, Will, spotted his wife’s car in traffic, he followed, intrigued as she turned into a hotel car park.

I devoured ALL THE DANGEROUS THINGS over my holiday break this year, and found this to be one of those rare books that genuinely is impossible to put down. When Joe sees his wife having a confrontation with family friend Ben, it’s the first hint that she’s been lying to him – about everything. Joe soon discovers that the barb of his wife's betrayal is just the beginning of what he's about to face in the following days to come. Sure he was a little too trusting and naïve but pray tell, who among us has not been that, at some point or another. They live in the moment and trust their eyes and ears, what they can see in front of them---I think we can all learn something from that.Throughout most of the story, there just seemed to be way too much “explaining” going on by various characters, especially as it related to aspects of technology and social media, things that I felt were common sense enough in this day and age that such thorough explanations felt unnecessary. But Logan keeps readers guessing as to exactly what happened to Ben, who is responsible for his fate, and exactly why Joe finds himself at the center of the mystery until the very end of the story. His wife, who he has always trusted implicitly, has proven that she can’t be trusted, and his world rocked. Psychological thriller about a man who makes a spur of the moment decision that destroys his seemingly happy life in an instant. From an apparent hacker accessing Joe’s Facebook account to bizarre messages following Joe on social platforms, the ubiquity of social media and its pervasiveness in Joe’s life quickly turns sinister.
