About this deal

I didn't like her boyfriend either (Matthew) and when I found out his ex-wife had also been his mistress, I went off her as well. The characters aren’t ones that I cared about , there was no real definition or outstanding qualities that made them likeable to be honest. She invents a new persona, befriends the spurned wife and attempts to patch up the marriage up so she can be rid of him. She's less-than-amused that this has happened and decides to do everything in her power to repel him and make him want to leave her. At the end, she gets caught lying and is forced to look at what she really wants and the person she really is.

She is author of ten novels on the Sunday Times Bestseller List — Getting Rid of Matthew, Got You Back, Foursome, The Ugly Sister, Skeletons, Strictly Between Us, My Sweet Revenge, Faking Friends, Tell Me A Secret, and Queen Bee. She’d made a promise to herself that she would have some fun, take opportunities when they arose without stopping endlessly to analyse their potential.Helen had started to work at Global PR at the age of thirty-four, a bit of a late starter, having spent the best part of her twenties travelling and partying, and trying to ignore the irritating voice in her head telling her to get on the career ladder before it was too late. Jane’s books seem to appeal to a large age generation, and I know I’ll be sending my mum this to read next!

These days, sleep often won out entirely, exhausted as Matthew always was by his high-powered working day. Fallon dips into smaller characters’ lives as necessary and in details that matter, leaving out anything the reader might not find useful or interesting as well as anything that doesn’t apply to the current situation. She didn’t know why this impressed her – she couldn’t have been less interested in the endless bangings on of the previous generation about the sixties – but somehow it set him apart, made him interesting by proxy, by virtue of just having been alive. To my mind, there's a certain flippancy to the term "chicklit", a scornful derision, an understanding that it's not "high brow". The affair and broken marriage eventually leaks out at work and Helen finally admits that she has to change her life, starting with her resignation.

Four best friends who met at university and end up married, having babies and living just streets away from each other.
