About this deal

Some people were guarded over their tactics,” says Gorton. “Like, if I steal your tactics, then you won’t be able to win. This is such a random game! You can’t even have a strategy.” Deal or No Deal is a British game show, originally hosted by Noel Edmonds from 31 October 2005 to 23 December 2016 on Channel 4, and by Stephen Mulhern from 20 November 2023 onwards on ITV1. At the centre of it all was Edmonds, prowling the Bristol studio, blown-out hair resplendent and goatee sharp. Forget Swap Shop, Noel’s House Party and the short-lived Noel’s HQ, which crossed Oprah-style philanthropic stunts with Daily Express-style railing at PC gorn mad: this was peak Edmonds. It looks so simple but it's an incredibly compelling game for both those playing and the viewers watching at home. It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour! I can’t wait to get started." Schneider, Michael (November 25, 2008). "Variety.com". Archived from the original on February 2, 2009 . Retrieved January 21, 2009.

There is no set formula for determining the amount of an offer and there are many factors that will affect whether or not a player will take an offer. The game began with the models spinning the "Deal Wheel", a wheel with 22 numbers corresponding to the numbers on the cases. A golden ball was placed into the wheel and as it spun, the ball bounced around inside the wheel to various numbers. When the wheel stopped, whichever number the ball landed is the contestant who competed in the game. Their case was then placed on a podium. The contestant had the opportunity to either keep the case they began the game with or swap with one of the remaining 21 cases. On 20 January 2023, ITV confirmed that a new series consisting of 20 episodes would air later in the year on ITV1, with Stephen Mulhern taking over from Noel Edmonds as host. Any player who does not make a decision within the time limit is disqualified from that round and scores zero. They play on as normal in any further rounds. If the contestant does not take the offer, they can then choose to keep their case or trade it for the one that is left. If they keep their own case, the case holder announces their guess BEFORE the contestant opens their special case. Then the contestant opens their own briefcase and this is the value they win from the host. Petski, Denise (March 13, 2018). "CNBC Greenlights 'Deal Or No Deal' Reboot With Howie Mandel". Deadline . Retrieved March 14, 2018. The show was a success for NBC, typically averaging from 10 to 16 million viewers each episode in the first season, although the subsequent seasons only averaged about 5–9 million viewers each episode. It has led to the creation of tie-in board, card, arcade, and video games, as well as a syndicated series played for smaller dollar amounts.
