About this deal

Perfectly baked biscuits, with perfectly browned tops! I could have shed a tear, to be honest, but suddenly had a great idea. Since I was home in my kitchen, I put a batch of biscuits in the traditional oven while my family was not watching. At dinner time, I presented both batches to see if anyone could tell the difference. remove the dough from the bowl and gently deflate with your fingers and then divide into four rounds and set aside on a floured surface covered with a plastic bag or a piece of clingfilm and leave to rise again for another 30 mins or so

Guess what? They could not tell the difference. My experiment was a complete success, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to make these perfect biscuits on our next camping trip. Muffins It’s compatible with the majority of the 2 burner or stand alone stoves I’ve reviewed. If you’re not sure however and can’t find an answer, drop me a mail and I will take a look for you. My first try was putting them in my savarin pan but it sits on the bottom and the base of the scones were slightly burnt, the rest of each one tasted great. So pondered the problem. Then -When I baked using the Dutch oven, it was hard to keep the top of the baked food from being steamed by the moisture being driven out of the food. The Omnia takes care of that, with the lid being high enough over the food to have quite a bit of hot air there, as well as having holes to let the steam escape. My bread and baked goods were very similar in texture to what they were in a conventional oven. Buying the Omnia Oven We get tonnes and tonnes of a message from people who are thinking of living the van life every week, and the same questions always pop up. The biggest thing on our reader’s minds is whether they will be able to eat properly inside their rolling tiny homes. And even if you can use charcoal where you’re camping, it can take a while to get them started – adding even more time onto the cooking process. After several weeks of testing the Omnia with a variety of dishes, my conclusion is that it’s the best way to bake on the stove top that I’ve ever tried. If your boat (or RV or any other kitchen) doesn’t have a true oven, I highly recommend the Omnia oven: The base and body work similarly to a double boiler. The burner directly heats the base, which warms the air gap between the base and the body. This air gap then provides gentle, indirect heat to the bottom of the body.

Review of the Omnia Stovetop Oven | Truck Camper Adventure Review of the Omnia Stovetop Oven | Truck Camper Adventure

I am a long time passionate cook and since moving into my van this has not changed. If anything I have become more passionate and I now think more about my health and nutrition as well as eating fresh and local produce. It’s similar to the Coleman Camp Oven I reviewed not too long ago. It’s a little more expensive, but I think this is reflected in the quality and materials it’s constructed from. The Coleman Oven folds down and is not made from such strong aluminium as the Omnia. Had a go with my new 'Le Four palestinien oven' (French version of the Omnia oven) that I bought from @Minxy Girl Duo Silicone Baking Molds– You will need these handy inserts for casseroles, bread, and all of your favorite baked dishes.

The burner directly heats the steel base, which in turn heats the air trapped between the base and the baking pan. The burner also heats air that goes up the center of the baking pan and the lid serves to distribute that hot air over the top of the food. The heat from the burner also travels directly up, through the base and body via the central air column, and is trapped by the lid. Small vents along the side of the lid draw the heat down over the food, before allowing the heat to escape.

Omnia Oven: The Ultimate Camping Oven - Fresh Off The Grid

There are three pieces to the Omnia oven: a steel base, an aluminum ring-shaped baking pan and the lid. The picture at right shows how it works. I also tried cheese scones, below left, recipe needs tweeking and rice flour scones below right, awful. The whole thing is smaller and much lighter than a good cast iron Dutch oven (it’s about 10 inches in diameter, 5 inches high, weighs about a pound and comes with a little bag to store it it).Storage Bag: Nice to have but not essential, this storage bag fits the Omnia and all its accessories and will help prevent scratches and dings when you store it. Whilst not essential, there are a handful of accessories that can go with the Omnia oven to further improve your campervan cooking experience. Silicone Insert All things considered, this oven is a really good investment. Like I mentioned earlier, having an Omnia oven with you really opens up a lot more cooking options. It makes for a great gift too if your friend/loved one already has a stove. The system is simple: you place the steel base on the burner and let it heat for about 3 minutes on high. Put your food into the baking pan and put the lid on it, then set it onto the base. In my opinion, to get the real value from this oven you need to bake some brownies or biscuits. It’s great at cakes, biscuits and all those sorts of bakes. Just as well as fish, casseroles and all those other evening meals.
