The Goonies Escape With One-Eyed Willy’s Rich Stuff A Coded Chronicles Game is an escape room in a box style experience that lets you experience the classic 80s movie The Goonies in a totally new way.
Go up against the fearsome Fratellis as Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, Data or Sloth to discover the legendary riches of One-Eyed Willy – or never again see the light of day. While it wasn’t as whimsical or laugh filled as the Scooby-Doo Coded Chronicles game it was more engaging and overall more rewarding. The Adventure Guide is for the GM, It comes with a nice GM guide but also has sections for each adventure including map diagrams over a two-page spread which keeps things simple and unintimidating. The Goonies: Never Say Die is a one-versus-all scenario-driven adventure game in which one side portrays the titular team of preteen treasure hunters.
When you paint your figures, you can be sure that the paints will be spared from scratches and abrasion. You get a chance to live this story yourself in The Goonies: Never Say Die, a game for 2-5 players by Prospero Hall and published by Funko Games. The dice mechanic is simple: roll a couple of dice (the type of die depends on what you are good at) and get successes. Legendary Treasures cannot be discarded unless stated and do not count against the 2 Treasure limit. The entire experience is full of joy, surprises, satisfaction, some frustration, but always quickly followed by lots of "oh yeah's!
In The Goonies: Never Say Die, one player takes on the role of the GM, while the other players control the titular goonies.A Goonie can prevent Damage from getting Attacked by Foes with a Wish Token, but if they run out of Health, the GM moves a Sand Token to the bottom of the Hourglass Tile. Players take on the part of different Goonies while the Gondocks Master sets us a series of nine adventures for our players to experience. While it can be played in one long sitting, you can also split the experience over two or three sessions due to a save system. There’s loads of player interaction throughout making it fun and different with each group of players, and with each adventure/level of the game there is a story to follow alongside it making players fully immersed into the world of the Goonies and thus make their decisions within the game seem more dire and important. The initial hints given on the table (which you then lookup in one of the books and read) are there to make sure you understand what the game is asking you to do.
The fact that it’s a game based off The Goonies too just makes this game a great game and I’m so happy to be able to say that this is an actual good game even without the name branding to boost it. There is a pit trap with many nostalgic property based games that look enticing but fall flat once you play. By splitting the game over three different sessions we were better able to savour and enjoy the game, getting a more fulfilling experience.The Goonies: Escape With One-Eyed Willy’s Rich Stuff – A Coded Chronicles Game includes a very short Adventure Guide that you read first that introduces the Coded Chronicles system. It’s not a very long rulebook at 16 pages, but make sure to read it cover to cover a couple times if you want to avoid mistakes like mine. The game works in 2 teams, the GM vs the rest of the players who will represent their chosen Goonie.
