Each player starts as a lowly but hopeful captain of a small starship in a modular, freeform galaxy. As mentioned above, in Xia each player is a lowly but hopeful starship captain who sets out to become the most famous person in the galaxy. To achieve said reputation, players will be flying their ships around the system exploring, fighting, mining, trading and completing missions.

Despite these many options, adaptability is key. Each player has a ship card associated to the current ship they have, as well as a power card for that ship. The ship card shows the ship's hold. This can be filled with cargo or outfits. Outfits are powerful elements any ship may need! Engines, blasters, shields and missile launchers. They come in three tiers and cost their respective tier to buy; Tier one costs one coin. All-in-all, we’ve had a lot of fun flying around the Drift System. In fact, one of our players even said that he could see himself playing this game for hours on end. There is so much to do in the galaxy and, given enough free time, you could easily spend the day gathering fame points, making trades, and fighting other ships. Speaking of which, Ascendancy is the best of the many Trek-themed board games on the market. Rather than emulate the details of the show, it wisely opts to zoom out and take a Bird-of-Prey’s-eye view of the galaxy. Each player takes a faction from the Star Trek roster: Federation, Romulan or Klingon. Then it’s a matter of shepherding resources, exploring the galaxy and crowding the others off the map. Free choice is a strange thing to have in a board game. It is incredibly rare to be told you can do whatever you want and still work towards a winning goal; some people despise it and crave structure, others love it and bask in the wide selection of choice! Xia: Legends of a Drift System by Far Off Games is a game of both sides. You can do what you want, choose any play style, and still work towards a win… But you will inevitably fall into a role within the system, be it a pirate, an adventurer, a ship for hire, or a delivery boy! Ice damage, shown as blue crystals, can come from several sources including ice asteroids, dead worlds, and exploration tokens. It works like normal damage, but at the end of your turn it spreads into all adjacent spaces. But it is at least free to repair when you reach a port… New Missions

Play the example game first from the rulebook! Scenario: When can generous be claimed? How is it arbitrated, if applicable, when more than 1 player wants to complete the title at the same time? If it is possible to complete generous on someone else’s turn, is it possible for Generous to give you the winning point, but you cannot collect it until the end of your turn, allowing someone else to win the game before your turn starts?
