Bought at City Lights Bookstore (motto: We have no humor section!) as a reward for surviving yet another week on Earth. Genres covered in this novel include Women's Psychological Fiction, Crime, Thriller And Mystery Adventures, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Literary Fiction, Suspense Thriller, Psychological Literary Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Noir Fiction, Womens Psychological, Domestic Thriller, Mystery ,Thriller & Suspense Literary Fiction, Crime Thriller, Suspense Thriller, Psychological Suspense, Murder Thriller, Domestic Fiction, Domestic Thriller and Thriller amongst others. What I didn't appreciate is that it was indirectly an essay on the crisis of mid-life. Your youth is in theory supposed to give you all the tools and ammunition to take on the battle of adult life. As it turns out adult life - mid-life is hard. Health, career, failed ambitions, betrayal, finding joy in small spaces, parents aging process, money, death. It's hard. He writes so beautifully on all these things. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat and I was hooked from the beginning to end’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The kind of book that keeps you hooked and guessing till very end… Full of mystery, tension and suspense. Had my heart pounding! The best thriller I’ve read this year. This book will reel you in instantly!’ Rubie Reads, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Told through the female friends and police officer over multiple times this is an essential who done it. The pace is good the true twists and turns in the big reveal took a long time to come a little too long as the tension wasnt there. Each chatacter narrative was carefully crafted to give you enough to see the story through their eyes .

I would still recommend reading it because it provides a lot of insights about an important American poet and musician, even though you will have to dig for them. I really liked the section about his decision to take a leave of absence after his first year of college to write a novel. It's as good a description of the creative impulse and it effect on personal relationships as you are going to find this side of Lives Of The Great Composers. This is the best psychological thriller I have read so far… A fantastic read and is recommended to all those who enjoy mystery and psychological thrillers.’ Once Upon A Read, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved this book. Didn’t guess the ending!... Really well written from different POV’s which weave together to tell the story.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of us is responsible for Annie’s death. One of us will stop at nothing to keep our secrets hidden… A group of college friends along with their partners and children go on a weeks camping holiday to Cornwall. It’s been a long time since they all had a holiday together and they are getting together to celebrate the 18th Birthday of the daughter of one of the friends. The camping holiday brings out dark secrets from the past, everyone seems to be hiding something. On this their last holiday together, one of them won’t return.

Her Last Holiday: the next addictive crime thriller from the

Later, Annie’s body is found nearby and everyone is a suspect because all of them have a motive and the detectives have to figure out who the killer is amongst them. It was quite obvious quite early on who the killer was, but it was fun to go on the journey to see how it was going to go. Typical popcorn thriller. It was told from the POV of 3 of the different women in the friend group and and dual timelines. It could have been a bit shorter but overall definitely a decent listen. This book was delightfully good. The ending had so many twists… I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It was a good one!’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Overjoyed, he is ready to begin life afresh with his new sweetheart, friends and business opportunities. They are a group of friends and they’ve been friends for a long time. They’re taking a camping trip- even though there are plenty of issues amongst them to cause controversy. Like the drug issue, his estranged relationships with his three children is given the silent treatment, and this would have been fine with me (family is private, and none of my damn business) except Scott-Heron attempts to put a positive spin on his refusal to recognize his son by spinning a very unlikely story that it was all just a misunderstanding. If you don't want to talk about it, Gil, that's fine, but don't ask me to believe the story you tell putting the blame on the mother.

The Last Holiday: A Memoir by Gil Scott-Heron – review

Quasi' because some of the essays/chapters jump by ten years, and often I had no clue what he was talking about as the essay's focus wasn't 'what was I doing in my life' but 'what was happening on the day X happened', for example, 'what was it like touring with Stevie Wonder, the day John Lennon was killed' (that's a whole chapter). That approach turns the book into a pastiche, if you're here to learn more about the man's life, chances are that you won't be helped. For that it's too impressionistic, too much essay, too little chronological If you don't know who Gil Scott-Heron was, I recommend the following: Go to a party, get drunk, have fun. Then, when you come home, it's 4 am or 5 am, have your post-party melancholy - open the beer you stole when you left, realise that it's already Sunday and you have to go to work or uni again soon, realise that you're alone and lonely, realise that you've grown apart from your family, realise that perhaps you were never that close in the first place, realise that you're incapable of closeness and warmth, realise that you'll die alone. Then put on Scott-Heron's last album, I'm New Here, because it will help. Only at the end with the publishers note, I understood what bothered me- no cohesion in the storytelling, a lot of trivial information while the last several chapters actually refer to Stevie and the hotter than July four. However, it got a bit confusing to tell the characters apart. I think multiple narrators would have made this more enjoyable.Annie. The life and soul of the party. Who can’t afford the glittering life that means so much to her.
